I couldn't stand the look of the plain gray stock.

I will be using it for squirrel up in the areas above Placerville and Oroville.

Very very nice. Could you please add a bit more detail as to how you did it? Things such as what was the base coat, what was the sequence of colors, etc? How resistant is it to rubbing off?

Technique is as simple as can be. All paints are Krylon Fusion.

Spray stock with a light colored base coat of River Rock.
Next, make a pattern card out of a fistfull of wild grass. I used foxtails from the creek behind my house. Card is made by laying out grass so it extends above the card and taping the ends of the grass to the card.
Hold pattern against the stock and spray with Hunter Green. Move from one end of the stock to the other, just randomly placing the pattern where it looks right. Do not go too heavy with the paint.
Repeat with Terra Cotta, overlapping the green to a small extent.
Repeat with Light coats of Khaki.

Repeat this process on all sides, making sure you get the nose of the stock and the butt plate.

I will have to see how the finish wears. But, if it does rub off or peel in a spot, just sand it down and paint it again.
