    Please explain this to me...

    Magpul PMAG 20 Round Magazine = $13.95
    Magpul PMAG 30 Round Magazine = $14.95

    and....

    Magpul PMAG 10/20 Magazine = $27.99

    $27.99!!!!!

What gives? Why are CA legal magazine more expensive than the standard rounds? (Also, you can find 20-30 rounders for $11 in other sites.)

They use a bar of gold to block it to 10rds.

Gouging.. They know we have no other option. If they tried pricing their 20 and 30's that way people in free states would go elsewhere.

Is it because they have to do the extra work to make it anti-gun state legal?

Good question, maybe it's taking into account the labor and materials costs for modifying a PMAG. If you're doing it in-house, add overhead costs, and whatever margin you're looking to make....yeah, I could see that. Is it justified?? who knows.

I think it takes into account that you are buying a product to look cool, not for pure function. Why buy a 10/20? Just get a 10 and be done with it. I never understood any of this 10/30 10/20 stuff. UNLESS . . . it's the only way for use your gun i.e. no one makes a 10 rounder for your gun.

If you shop around you will be able to locate 10/20 Pmags for around 23.00
Allied Armory is out at this time, but they do have good prices when they are in stock.

this is why someone who lives in a free state, buy the 20/30 rounders, then disassemble them, and ship/sell them in CA as repair kits, and charge only $19 bucks.

and just let the buyer deal with blocking it off. which can be done for cheaper than the $9 extra after magazine cost.

Two reasons: 1) legal liability and 2) added time and materials

Extra cost is for labor to make the 30 round mag into a 10/30 round mag.
Those 10/30 round mags don't make themselves.

Yes. Magpul doesnt make a 10rd mag in a 20 or 30rd body. Someone has to sit there and convert the 20-30rd mag into a 10rd mag, your paying that extra money for their labor and parts to convert it for you. I buy my 30rd rebuild kits and make my own blocks to make it a Ca legal 10rd mag.

Trust me, we would much rather just sell you standard Magpul PMag 20 and 30 rounders at MSRP but CA law prevents it. Unfortunately we have to have blocks machined, disassemble the mags, reassemble with block, drill and pin the mags. Our 10/20 PMags also provide a true "anti-tilt" with our follower block so they operate very nicely and look stock from the outside.

You can always save a little money and import "rebuild kits" or get riveted mags, etc... if you prefer to do the work yourself you can always save a few bucks. For those that prefer to have a converted mag from a company that will warranty it, then you pay a few extra bucks. Is that gouging?
