    Rust preventing sprays?

What are some good sprays to use on guns to keep them safe in an environment with moisture in the ait? Some of this oil based lubricant just seems to dry up real fast.

    What about this? http://www.gundogsonline.com/shootin...lubricant.html

I reccomend using motorcycle chain wax, it makes your gun tackey and you should run a patch down the bore of any rifles that you spray before shooting them, but I've stored firearms with worn finishes in highly corrosive environments for over a year and they were protected very well.

    just my 2 cents.

There was a thread awhile back that had a salt water test on bare metal tabs that gave a good idea what worked and what didn't work...surprisingly WD40 worked better than you would think.

Do a search on preservative or wd40 and you might find it.

I've had good luck with both WD-40 and Breakfree CLP

            Check out Eezox.

I use Eezox and think it's the greatest thing since CLP. I use it on my motorcycle chain as well with great results. Check out how it did in the tests:

Test of best rust-proofing products for corrosion protection, anti-rust, tool and gun storage. Breakfree, Break-Free CLP, Corrosion-X, Corrosion X, Eexoz, FP-10, FP10, Sheath, Mobil 1, Militech, Rem-Oil, Rig, Grease, Cosmoline, Slip 2000, Tetra tested. Salt spray tests on rust preventatives. Also dessicants, goldenrod, Vapor, Bore-Store silicon bags for storage. 6mm BR Benchrest precision shooting. Load Data, Message Boards, Dies, gunsmiths. Reloading, shooting, hunting, and varminting.

All great info but remember to keep this stuff away from your ammo. Super clean before you "fired it back up". JMHO

                  I love this stuff:
Corrosion Technologies' collection of cleaning, protecting and beautifying products for boats, yachts, work boats, commercial ships, cruise ships and naval vessels.

I have sprayed it on bare high carbon steel and let the salt due hit it for months and no rust... Great Stuff!!!

I use this all the time for my salt water fishing gear but it stinks to high heaven.

I spray the steel guides and reel internals for my deep sea tackle and it definately prevents rust but you have to leave the stuff in the garage for a week or so because of the smell and Wifezilla complains about the smell the whole time.

I sprayed a cast iron front rest that I have in the garage Sunday and brought it into my gun room yesterday afternoon. When my buddy came over after dinner to build his off list lower we had to work with the windows open because of the chemical smell.

You are right about the smell, but since I cannot clean guns in the house anymore - it only keeps my wife out of my garage

I am going to try that Boeshield they have it at Rockler, it sound like great stuff.

We use Motul chain wax at work for reground flywheels and brake rotors/drums. Some of that stuff has been on the shelf for a few years with no rust, and easily wipes off with gasoline or brake kleen. Never tried it on firearms, but I would venture to say it would work fine.
