            ACT beats REACT

If I have an intruder in the house at night and they move towards one of my kids' rooms I'm not going to be thinking about the moral right and wrong of shooting them, in fact I've already decided that a long time ago.

It's like people who go rock climbing, they know the risks if something goes wrong. Same as people who break into occupied homes, they know there is a real risk they could end up injured or dead, they assume that risk when they break into the house.

Killing another human is not natural. However, many times it is necessary.

It is up to you to decide if the bad guy, or your loved ones, deserve to die.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

Read "On Killing" by LTC Grossman. Everyone is affected differently.

Thanks to many hours playing Doom, I am no doubt death incarnate.

And if an intruder should suddenly appear in the middle of the night, I will be ready...

                      ...standing there, in my underwear...

In a way they are. Not so much that they turn normal people into killers but it does have an effect on us. Very rarely in video games are you held accountable for the violence you committ and very rarely there are no rules; you can shoot police, civilians, bad guys, etc. It a way it does condition us, the US military switched from bulls eye style targets to silhouette targets and US military firing rates jumped dramatically. As we experience violence, especially in video games and movies we do get desensetized to it. My mom wasn't allowed to see the movie "Birds" when she was a kid which was essentially birds flapping their wings on humans and the humans die (in black and white nonetheless), nowadays it is normal for teenagers to see movies with bloody torture scenes, sex scenes, cussing, and drug use. Can you say that 50 years ago? Can you say that people of today cuss more than they did 50 years ago? The US Navy actually attemped to desensative their soldiers in Vietnam by watching videos of people getting tortured.

the sad thing is I used to think I would just shoot to wound now but damn lawyers pretty much mean your better off shooting to kill.

With the level of ability non lethal weapons have that may be a better way to defend yourself they dont always work but neither do guns.

Personally if someone broke into my house looking for loot all I would think is that the world is better off without them thus the choice is easy. If they broke in looking for food or help during a time of emergency I would gladly offer it to them. Thats my distinction and I wouldnt think twice about it.

Now if I could get sent into libya to get this facker who got released today after 8 years in prison for killing 270 people in an airline attack sign me up.

                            Just saying...

It gives an interesting perspective. A broken clock is right two times a day. You can condition people to fire on a person, whether they like it, hate it, or remain indifferent, that's another story.

I shot my cousin in the knee cap with a BB gun cuz he took the last beer out the ice chest. Made him cry AND I got the beer. I would dew it again.
