Yep, it's the "AR" that's triggering the problem. A lot of old salts remember that the AR was banned by name.

Call it anything but an AR..........Try EBR or Evil Black Rifle next time.

Is it an AR? Please don't hate him for covering our buts. They do fine with calling it an off list lower too.

No worries bro, he was cool actually. Theres no other range close enough with 100 yard lanes so I have to try and reason out best I could so I can shoot my AR.

He said all ARs are AW, I countered mine is not since it's been neutered and made to a semi auto with non detachable mag. Thats when he said I'm okay but he suggested that I should not call it an AR. I asked him what should I call it then? he said just say a semi auto rifle.
I just say I'm shooting .223. No hassle that way.

So what happens if I bring a CA compliant rifle from out of state where registration isn't required for long guns?

What if I moved here with a long gun and CA doesn't require registration of long guns? Thought a fixed mag made it no longer an Assualt Rifle?

The problem I have with any store or range asking for AW paperwork is that we are NOT LEGALLY REQUIRED to carry our registration paperwork with our AWs.

Is this something new? Did something happen to them? Anyone know?
They've been doing it for the last few years that I'm aware of.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

Then you will become a California resident who owns a long gun.

Yes, fixing the mag is one way of building a California-legal semi-auto centerfire rifle with evil features. The rifle would also have to be at least 30 inches long and have a magazine capacity of 10 rounds or less.

But these questions are kind of off topic.
