Jackson Arms - checking AW paperwork???

So I went to Jackson this weekend. I've been going there for about almost 8 years now. I've taken with me my Registered ARs, AKs, FALs, etc.

This time, I was actually asked to provide paperwork showing my AR was a registered AW.

Is this something new? Did something happen to them? Anyone know?

Could it be just a off duty LEO who's working there? I know they use to have a few working at the old place. I'm interested to know, too.

Dunno . . . haven't been there in a few weeks. They're pretty used to seeing my face, most of the time they don't even look in my cases or check my ammo now.

I've heard of them asking for AW paperwork before, as well. I'm not too surprised.

They have a business to run. I personally would rather go to business that intends to stay open rather than one that is known as Hogan's Alley. At least when that business is in the city.

Having paperwork check suck a little. But losing another range would suck more. And don't kid yourself. It's not all on the end user when you bring a unregistered AW into a business. Sure the end user may take the initial brunt of bullschit. But in the end the business will also be looked at too.

I wish we lived in a Sane state with the livers to understand AW = just another firearm. But we don't right now. Some day once again we will get there. Until that a day arrives we have to cope with with the people who might have to ask us about our firearms. But we don't have to like it!

I still think Jackson Arms is a great place to enjoy our sport.

I wish we lived in a state where there was no such legal term as "assault weapon."

And if you don't have your papers then what? Do they just tell you that you need to leave or call the local LE, just wondering thier course of action.

Or there is such a term, and they are freely sold at every gun store and with a simple 10 minute NICS check they come home with you. No different than any other gun on the rack.

BINGO! I heard that this range is owned by card carrying members of the SFPD. They were driven out of their gun free zone; so they opened up in the suburbs, where they don't have to deal with gun hating politicians. Melanie Morgan interviewed the guys at Jackson's, when she worked at KSFO a few years ago.

Same goes for the defunct San Francisco Gun Exchange. Butterfield's doesn't have gun actions any more either...

I went there last friday (8/7) early evening, no problem with those guys, theres a new (to me) guy at the counter who asked to check my ammo and when I told and showed him its a wolf, he looked and asked the senior guy and he just said GTG.

On a side note, I went to Cayote Point two weekends ago and the old man at the counter asked me what I was shooting, when I said its an AR he asked me for the paperworks, I told him I dont need paperworks since mine is not an AW. He said all ARs are AW, I countered mine is not since it's been neutered and made to a semi auto with non detachable mag. Thats when he said I'm okay but he suggested that I should not call it an AR. I asked him what should I call it then? he said just say a semi auto rifle.

Is it an AR? Please don't hate him for covering our buts. They do fine with calling it an off list lower too.
