I got a set from a booth at the Del-Mar show .I had the little valve put in them and they work great I have been 10 ft. to the side when a 3" smoothbore went off and no problems .You can hear normal conversation and the valve allows some heat to escape.

I've had mine for about 4 years now and I love it!
I use it in all shooting events from IPSC, 3-Gun competition to hunting. And is very comfortable.
        It really works!

I have 2 pair, one for shooting and one for motorcycle riding. You can get them with filters so that you can still her talking OK. I wear full muffs indoors but the molded plugs are great for all else and very comfy.
Any audiology lab can mold them for you.

I have constant ringing in my left ear and frequent ringing in my right.

Indoor racquetball, motorcycle riding, loud machinery and outdoor shooting/hunting without hearing protection.

              Wear hearing protection.
              Wear extra protection.

Trust me, this does NOT heal and it never gets any better.
But the ringing does get louder..

I'm curious as to how indoor racquetball affected your hearing Kestryll. I began playing it in 1972 when it first came to S. Ca. and played for 28yrs. I had to quit in 2000 due to my back, but I don't recall having any problems due to the game. I realize everyone is different, so I'm just wondering.

My problems occurred in 1982, using the dept. hearing muffs while at the PPC course at Wayside Jail (near Magic Mtn.) I get what I call "tunnel hearing." I can hear people talking, but it is like they are at the end of a tunnel. Lasts most of the day and I wear swimmer's plugs in the canal and electronic hearing muffs.

That's good info! Yeah I am scared that my hearing would get messed up. That's why I wear foam plugs and my electronic muffs

I had custom ear plugs made and I don't even use them. I just use regular foam ear plugs or Mack's Ear Seals (also waterproof), + Ear Muffs.

Are there any (electronic) muffs that are rifle/cheek weld friendly? I don't use mine anymore because it interferes with my cheek weld. for now, I use disposable ear plugs, but would like more protection if possible (like Kestryll's post). I'd try those valve type ones, but those serrations/ribs hurt the hell out of my ears. I have those right now with the cord around your neck, but after 20 mins, my ears are sore from that ribbing.

                          +1

                          Foam plugs and muffs.

Foam plugs have some of the highest NRR's. Muffs just add to it.

Muffs alone are not good because the shooting glasses arms displace a channel in the muff's insulating ring. So the plugs take care of the spill through sound.

Another recommendation for Linda at EarPlugs USA. Cost is $45 at the gun show.

I needed plugs to take the CA bar exam - it's 3 days of mad typing and writing, and I needed the quiet of the plugs over the 3 days. Normal foam plugs kill my ears after just a few hours.

Linda's plugs did the job with great comfort - only minimal soreness after wearing them for about 10 hours a day!

I have used them for outdoor shooting and have had no problems, but I would double up for indoor shooting.

The custom plugs are waaaay beyond foam plugs, and are also great for sleeping or flying, something that over the ear muffs cannot do.

I did some research and chose Linda because she was nice on the phone. She did a very thorough job, and I can recommend her without reservations.

I swear by the cutom made plugs - I always double bag my ears now w/ the plugs and a set of muffs.
