    Custom made EAR plugs

I've been to a few gun shows in OC and saw several booths that make ear plugs on the spot. I was wondering if anyone hear (here) at Calguns had one made.

Is it better than ear muffs or foam ear plugs? Is it worth the price?

    Any information would be appreciated.

I posted this in a previous thread:

I don't use ear plugs because you can't hear anything. I don't like muffs at all. I've been using ear baffles/ear valves for 30 years or so; they look like plugs but have in internal baffle system that will block off harmful high db sounds like gunfire. They used to be called Norton Sonic II's but then the name changed to North Sonic II's. I've also seen other manufacturers carry a similar design including Silencio and Radians:

They are comfortable and work very well while allowing you to hear fairly well. I even use them at the indoor ranges and have never over the years experienced ringing afterwards or any loss of hearing. They work!

Have a pair made about a year ago. Fit great, using them for shooting and motorcycling.

I've noticed that foam plugs loosen up and very inconvenient after sighting in your target. There's nothing worse than adjusting for wind, control your breathing, center your crosshairs, and squeezing your trigger only to hear that dreadful ringgggg! I'm looking to pick up some custom made plugs at this upcoming Costa Mesa show. Any input on price comparisons?

So is it safe to assume that even with the custom plugs that the loud sound of a gunshot still pings the ear. I'm currently using foam plugs w/muffs. I'm trying to eliminate wearing the ear muffs if the custom plugs will work.

When shooting indoor I always use plugs AND muffs. Outdoors, only plugs. YMMV

I've been trying to find a decent set of ear plugs for awhile now. I've tried what seems to be just about every variation of foam ones that are out there and without fail they are ALL painful after about an hour of wearing them.

I tried the North Sonic Valve II's awhile back and ran into the same problem where they would get painful after awhile. Does anyone have any suggestions besides going the custom route which is looking expensive?

Got a set made by EarPlugsUSA (Linda) a year ago at the OC gun show. Love them. I shoot outdoors mostly and love not wearing the headset especially when temps are high. If I am in a class I will use my electronic muffs or both when shooting indoors.

                    To use the ear plugs:
All that you do is screw the ear plugs into each ear until the ends meet (or at least it feels that way the first time).

                    Good product.

How good are they in indoor ranges? Wore my militry style plugs and had to put on muffs. Was too loud without them.I'm very interested in getting a pair. Can you exsplain the difference in DB rating? Are they better with a lower Db or higher?

I've worn nothing but ear valves for nearly 30 years indoors and out and have never experienced hearing loss or damage symptoms (ringing). I regularly shoot powerful cartridges including 50BMG and 44Mag indoors and have yet to experience hearing complications. The ear valves act in such a way that they only close off when sensing the decibel levels that would actually contribute to hearing damage. They may seem loud compared to traditional ear plugs and muffs only because these other devices (besides electronic hearing protection) disallow all levels of sound while ear valves allow semi-normal conversation levels and sounds below the threshold where damage occurs.

I wear foam plugs and ear muffs indoors and out.

I have lost most of the mid and upper registers in my left ear, a large part of the mid and some upper registers in my right ear and have a 15-20 loss of conversational hearing. I hear you talking but to me it sounds as if you said something completely different to me.
I have constant ringing in my left ear and frequent ringing in my right.

Much of this is from an indoor firing of a .357 Magnum with no ear protection but the groundwork was laid all through life.
Indoor racquetball, motorcycle riding, loud machinery and outdoor shooting/hunting without hearing protection.

                          Wear hearing protection.
                          Wear extra protection.

Trust me, this does NOT heal and it never gets any better.
But the ringing does get louder..
