It depends on which State the Walmart is located in and the Walmart management for that specific store.
During 2019-2020, some Walmart stores throughout the USA voluntarily stopped selling all firearms/ammunition due to civil unrest in their area and some of those stores never went back to selling any firearms/ammunition due to previous low sales numbers and/or loss through theft.
In addition, in 09-2019, Corporate Walmart made the decision to stop selling handguns and stop selling ammunition that is not primarily used in rifles or shotguns.
By the end of 2019, all Walmart stores had to amend their policy and procedures to comply with the directive from corporate. Which meant that, starting in 2020, no Walmart would sell ammo that is primarily used in handguns.
^In conjunction with this, some Walmart store managers went one step further and voluntarily agreed to the Brandy Campaign's request to stop selling ammunition that can be used in assault weapons. These Walmart stores that still sell ammo, will only sell rimfire ammo and centerfire rifle hunting ammo and shotgun ammo.Last edited by Quiet; 02-18-2024, 7:04 PM.sigpic

I buy all my 22 ammo at my local Walmart. They are always well stocked in 22 lr and shotgun ammo. I?ve also bought 22 mag and seen center fire rifle ammo.
They also sell 22 rifles and shotguns.Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.Comment

I was in Kansas last year and they still had ammo at Walmart. They did not have any 5.56 or 223 there though. Not sure if it was because they were sold out or they just didn't carry it. No 7.62x39 either now that I thin about it. They had everything else though.

Walmart doesn't sell handgun or 'assault rifle' ammunition any longer. My local WM has amoo but it is rarely a bargain.Comment

They have ammo.
But I haven't gone since no more handgun, AK, or AR calibers..
I do carry in their stores 100% of the time whether they like it or not.Comment

My local one does not have ammo that I've noticed, but even the pharmacy down the road from me in Texas is also a FFL so I have plenty of options.Comment

They need the ID for proof of age.
My local Wallys runs out of common calibers when everyone else does. I don't buy most handgun ammo like 9mm, so I don't know if they carry that. They carry lots of rifle and shotgun ammo. I don't buy ordinary .223 or 5.56 either, so I never look for it.Comment

At least my local Walmart sells rifles, shotguns and ammo without requiring me to submit to a background check! They also do not object to customers open carrying. Since they do not carry handguns or AR style rifles, I do my gun related shopping elsewhere.Comment
