You're comparing something that goes up your nose, and is gone once used to physical firearms that don't 'disappear', ever, unless you sell them. If you look at how firearm restrictions are applied (not that they should be), people who already own something generally are given opportunity to register/keep the item that's been made illegal.
If the owner did register them, they were not illegal for him to possess. The only reason that changed was because of his health condition, and it's pretty sick for Bonta to use that issue to take his privately owned firearms from him and his family. You're talking about at least 500k in firearms if not more that he's stolen from him and his family.
