Interesting gun acquisition

I’ve never been into black powder guns. But I have a childhood friend in Alaska who builds his own black powder guns. Then he hunts deer and rabbit with them.

That was a pretty good buy, the mysterious powder notwithstanding.

I have never been a black powder shooter due to the cleanup afterwards. But I have been giving some serious thought to shooting my 1795 Springfield replica.

Do it. It is a lot of fun.

That is a really neat story. Maybe that rifle was part of a drug smuggling ring. Many times I wonder what kind of stories guns could tell if they could speak.

I wonder that as well. I have an Arisaka with notches on the stock. Were those for GIs? or maybe for deer a later owner took with it? I have a Winchester 1894 from the turn of the century with notches as well. I have several WWII guns from Axis countries and several from Allied countries. were they pointed at each other at one point? Imagine the stories my Spencer carbine or three band Enfield could tell from the Civil War... I could keep going.

Ok... first picture is from the outside. I have already folded the flap back down. You can see where the sooty water came out from the seam.



The next one is from a distance inside. You can see the spray pattern of the sooty water on the inside of the door. The spot where the hole is was wiped because I was going to put some aluminum tape on it. The rifle is leaning against the pipe vice which I set the can on.



Next is a close up of the hole from the inside.



Finally a picture of all the pieces of the can I could find.



I searched for the patch but never found it.
