I?m sure there?s an auction house that can take care of it. I see them online all the time.

Not knocking you. Think about this for a second.

Say PPV bluebook is $1000.00, new wholesale is 600.00, why would a dealer pay you more for a used firearm than he could get for new.

Now say the firearm is off roster, he then has to find a buyer outside CA and ship to an FFL. The out of state buyer will pay less than you do in CA.

More cost, less profit in it. Dealer will still have overhead to factor in.

My background was working at a Pawn Shop and buying selling both new and used firearms.

EBR Works in Prescott liquidated R. Lee Ermey?s collection. They charge 15% plus gunbroker fees.

I'll contact EBR. The Gun shop in lancaster is a bunch of Aholes, but I appreciate the suggestion.

If one sells a large collection on Gunbroker, assuming that it will be more than $600, should I assume that it will be reported by Gunbroker to the IRS or the FFL? or does the owner of the collection need to report that to the IRS?

It would be nice to see if OP could try to sell the off-rosters here in Cali, himself or consignment at a local shop as he would get the most $ for doing that here.

Bring them to AZ and sell at the 3-day AZ state fairgrounds CrossRoads of the West gun show PHOENIX, it will huge and tons of buyers and collectors will be there and you will sell, they have this table there that a family or somebody advertises as an Estate Sale to get around from FLL and selling multiple firearms legally without any hassle from ATF and such. I am sure you can do the same if you get a table there.

I ask because I buy collections, and pay more than 50% value. Some people's "large" is what other people forget to unload from their truck after a range day.

Telling someone who lives in Palmdale to sell his guns at an Arizona gun show as an "estate sale" without an FFL is really, really bad advice. Also suspicious.

Must be an AZ Resident on both sides of the sale to do it legally here. However, if he brings them he can perform a PPT using an FFL to transfer to a AZ Resident buyer.

The AZ buyer can still take it home the same day as instacheck system will be used.

In such an example and if GB is processing the payment they will issue the seller a Form 1099 which they will CC the IRS on.

As a general tax rule, collectables are considered alternative investments by the IRS and include things like art, stamps, coins, guns, cards, comics, rare items, antiques, and so on. If collectibles are sold at a gain, you will be subject to a long-term capital gains tax rate of up to 28%, if disposed of after more than one year of ownership. You?re only taxed on the profit made off the sale, by sure to keep your receipt to prove the purchase price.

I would list them on here first.. make a package deal or break them into lots..

Yeah, it's more of a hassle but the stores offer you 50% because they know they are the easy path.. so that's up to you to decide.

You could also maybe find a gun auction house if the collection is special enough to warrant.

Seems to be more than a few CG collectors potentially interested in your stuff.

Maybe a PM to them with NDA as option?

Regardless- while I suspect you are sad to see them go, you’d want them appreciated by someone )vs. PD buy back crushed).

I have bought, traded and sold literally hundreds of firearms between the years 1975 and today. All the weirdo to dang near museum pieces you name it.
Looking back...I barely broke even. With that said "I had a ball"

Try Lock, Stock & Barrel in Simi Valley. They specialize in estate and collection sales.
