    What gun should I buy?

I have a fair amount of cash (about $450, maybe nore later) that I need to waste on a gun, now that I think about it I don't really know what I should get.

I've already got a hunting gun, so I don't need one of those, however my plinking, home defense, etc categories still need fulfillment. I may be getting another $200 or so later on, so therefore anything up to $600 I can probably afford.

    Thanks to anyone who responds.

How about a nice 4" S&W Model 686? .38 Specials for practice, and mag loads for the serious social stuff.

There was a Winchester 1300 8 shot shotgun someone was selling recently.
Only asking 250.00 for it I would buy it if I lived closer.

If you want out of the box...

              A USED MINI14.

SKS ($250... so you could buy a compliance kit and "deck" it out with all the attachments/folding stock )

              Any shotgun at big 5.

You can buy a Saiga styled AK (308, 7.62x39, 223) though that might be a little harder to aquire. You'd have to find someone willing to ship, and a willing FFL. That'll run you between $300-$500.

You can get an AK in 22. Either go cheapo for $250 and get the ARMSCOR one... or get the real foreign AK TRAINER for $300-$400.

If lucky you can try for a PC9.

              Otherwise go 10/22... you can't beat a 10/22 for price. $10 for a box of 500 shots

I disagree. If he's gonna get the SKS-type rifle, keep it fixed stock, no PG. Right now, I'd go with an SKS-type rifle over an AK clone. If my guess is right anyway.

I guess it depends what you have. I have had urges to get such and such, but they go away after 4 to 6 months and then I lust over something else. You really don't need more than about 4 different guns, but you ought to own 8 (since you need back up spares for each kind).

I'd recommend a high end semi-auto pistol or a good 1911. $600 might come up short on a new one, but 6 bills is not out of line for a decent gat that had 50-100 rounds through it.

ON EDIT: plinking ideas. a ruger or buckmark .22 pistol and if it isn't a top of the line model, spend the other 2 bills on an sks or $89 big 5 type of milsurp bolt action or two. the 10/22 is even cheaper than the pistols.

In the order of "need" : a shotgun for home defense, a ruger 10/22 with scope for plinking at the range ($12.00 for 500 rounds!), an SKS for sure then get the pistols. You will find most long guns are more fun than pistols anyway.

Tell us what you have, and then we will expose the gaps in your arsenal.

That said, get a Glock for around $550 and you will be set.

+1 on a Smith & Wesson 686. Perfect for home defense and the versatility of loads makes it a great range gun. It is a workhorse that will outlive your unborn children and scary accurate.

SKS and a case of ammo should run just about $450 after DROS & taxes. Get some stripper clips, too!
                          You'll have tons of fun

If you haven't quite decided on what to buy....then why not rent a gun or two at your local shooting range (ie. revolver vs semi-auto)? This way you can at least narrow down the selections on the pistols. Most indoor ranges have shotguns, pistols and possibly some rifles for rent.
