Just moved out of California last July. When I left I owned 42 pistols, 3 rifles, & 1 shotgun. In 4 months I've purchased another 18 pistols, with 4 more on the way.

Life is awesome here in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Built a custom house w/a 1,200 boat barn. Working for the state of Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Get to work 4 days a week & best of all I have no real bills to speak of.

Gotten to a point where I've considered selling them off since I can't manage enough free time to go shooting anyway.

I've never gotten to "enough" (how is that even a concept? LOL) but I have gotten to "no more room in the safe". Just sold a small number of guns at the Big Reno Show for the sake of freeing up some safe space. I don't think that counts, though!
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I sell one and buy two. My newest mindset is .22. I have all the types for my grandkids. All I'm missing is the Pump .22. I'm looking at the Rossi.

With that said, I bet I own 25 or better that have never been fired.

As for ammo, Not bragging, but I would challenge you to my pallets stacked high in 50 cal ammo cans. :-)

I thought I had enough until newsome and his regressive party pushed for additional 11% tax on guns and ammo.

The justification will come in due time.

I started ownership on the vein of home defense and radius of reach - handgun, shotgun, AR... didn't get to bolt action or M1A since I don't have the access and energy to get to an outdoor range. Got the spouse's ok for a couple "one for hers".

Wanted to get into the revolver and lever action carbine combo, but decided to focus upon currently owned calibers. "would love to own, but will have to feed"

That snowballed into considering a shared magazine factor when windowshopping a Glock and Ruger PCC. And recently justifying a CCW application, I bought all three handguns hopefully for carry within a month via PPT and new.

I guess my current outlook on ownership is "time, talent, and tools." Might hop onto a MantisX on Black Friday. Wishlist still has a PCC and maybe the 365.

I am at the point in my life where I think I have enough. Three large safes stuffed full, one that I carry (have a CWC). If I could go back to Africa again I could use a 375H&H or Ruger for buff. Money and health will not let that happen.
I am 72 and have a heart problem that they have fixed for now. I also have stage 4 terminal cancer.
I have from 20cal to 50BMG covered in rifles, some Mil Surplus rifles and pistols. Alsohave22RF/5.7X28//223/257/308win/454Sasull/44mag/38sp/357mag/9mmLuger/9mm that is shorter that some of the forgien countrys use/that weird one that the Russian 1891(?) revolver uses/ and maybe some other pistols.
I have a number of 12ga shotguns and 2 BP rifles and a single shot BP pistol.
I also have plenty of mags/clips/holsters/ ammo and reloading supplies and equipment, soft and hard carrying cases/extra scopes and other stuff.
I think my buying days are past me and I want to spend the money of hunting when I am able as well as fun shooting.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

For me it’s a it depends answer.

My guns are tools. I have specific ones for specific jobs. I get proficient with them. For my home defense I have certain guns that I train to fight with so it’s basically ingrained. I cross train with other guns for the in case I gotta use a different gun scenario. But I have specific go to guns. This applies to hunting. I wouldn’t use my bolt action 300 WM for HD. But if I had to I could.

I had quite a few guns when I was collecting rifles and wheel and semi pistols. But it got too be too much and I realized I wasn’t a big collector so over time I sold a lot of the guns to friends or people. Now if you’re a true collector and your passion is guns like people collect stamps….that’s the only time it’s a ok it’s never enough. But even collectors sell and buy others

I have a rule I keep 5 of each rifles shotguns pistols. I may have more of one and less of another but I’m capped at 15. If I want another I have to sell one of the 15. You’ll find that you rarely need more guns. But you’ll want many.
I also consolidated calibers. Any weird off the wall stuff got sold. And I kept mainstream calibers. I also refuse to have safe queens. If I own it it’s gonna get used
