Ever get to where you think "OK I have enough guns now?"

Speaking from a standpoint of practicality, as I know some of you will say "you can never have enough!" I feel like I'm at the point where I have enough for my needs and wants for the foreseeable future. Thinking in terms of, I don't want to have to buy more than one large safe, and I want to be proficient with the ones I have, and I feel having more guns than you realistically have time to train with is counter-productive, even though I do have guns I've had for years and haven't shot yet. The last few times I've gone to Scheels and visited the gun section, I haven't had the desire to see what's in the cases. I don't know, maybe it's a phase, and after I finish the builds I'm currently working on I'll get an itch to buy more, but right now, I just feel flush.

Anybody else get to this point and stick to it?

I would like to standardize, meaning have multiples of one AR15, multiples of one 9mm handgun, multiples of one shotgun.

For example, I am down to a few G19s, a P365, a P320, a P226 Mk25, a CZ SP-01, and a CZ P-01 for 9mm, but I wish I could get myself to pick one to standardize magazines and to address OP point of training with just one manual of arms.

Maybe keep collecting variants of AKs and 1911s, but standardize everything else.

I already got rid of a menagerie of random old stuff, and still have a PPK to move, but it is the 9mms I am struggling to decide on.

I think it really depends on if you own firearms as tools or if you collect them as historical artifacts. If tools, sure, once you got all the tools you need then you are done. If you are collecting artifacts like milsurps, or every model you can find of a specific brand or design, then you are probably going to keep adding to the collection when you find something that is a great deal. Collecting is highly subjective. Some folks here collect cheap saturday night specials.

I doubt I could ever stick to it, but yes, I do have all my categories of firearms covered (save for the semiauto mil spec sector, lol).

imho, what you're thinking of will always be a moving target.

Like I said, I have most if not all of the slots (figuratively) filled in my safe. The thing now is ensuring a consistent supply for the ammo fast-movers like 5.56 and .45 auto. I handload for everything else: .38, .357, .41, .44 .45-70, .30-30, 7.62 X 39, 7.62 X 51 and .375 H&H. I don't think I'll ever get through all the 12 ga food I have stashed...

I'm sure there will be those few firearms I lust for, if and when I discover the opportunity to acquire one for a fair price in the future, that will come home to live with the rest of the family.

Yup, I don't "need" any more firearms. I currently only have a few that I'm looking for but, I don't need them. Ammunition and reloading components are things one can never have enough of.

I'm not collecting anything historical. Everything I have I plan to use. Granted I do have a reasonable number of cartridge types I've bought (or am building) rifles for, and I could probably reign that in a little bit, but I'm already invested as far as reloading hardware and components for the most part, so I doubt I'll be downsizing at any time.

That's pretty much where my mind is going. Once I finish buying the rest of the parts I need for the rifle builds I'm already in the middle of, and some more spare parts, probably 99% of my expenditures will be ammo and reloading components. Thinking about it, there's some level of peace in that, knowing I will just be buying stuff as I find good deals.

I'm not sure if I should answer this thread question with...

                  "Blasphemer!!!",

                  "Hate speech!!!"

                  Or

"I think the OP's wife has logged on to his account and is asking this question to prove a point to him about his ever growing collection."

I'm just joking around, it's actually an interesting question to me.

Even if I did have a collection that included all my needed, wanted and bucket list firearms, I have a strong feeling that at least for me (and maybe most of the people here?) that I would still be very tempted to buy almost Any working firearms that I consider a Great deal or a rarely found bargain.

Does that mean I have a problem acquiring too many firearms?

or a problem of not being able to pass up any gun bargains?

I know it's not a problem for me to not purchase other items at very low prices, even if they were way below market price

...Unless of course they were cars, trucks, motorcycles, quality knives, blondes or bacon.

Been like that for the past 2~3 years now...

While I am interested in trying out a new gun, etc. it gets to the point of, do I really need to buy it? In a nutshell, I can practically take any gun, especially semi-automatics, and can perform to a competent level. As you said - having more guns that one can realistically train with...

The one good thing about investing in guns is that you have something that has value; with the state of our economy and the world the collapse of the dollar or even the USA is possible. In that case your dollars / savings account are going have no value. If you invest in guns, ammo, etc. there is always going be value.

I have a core collection that addresses my current wants or needs. And a little more just for fun. I frequently buy guns beyond that collection, because they sound fun or I want to try something new out. But those don?t stay long, or they replace something in the core collection which then has to go.

This system keeps me from hoarding, and keeps the number of types of ammunition I have stocked to a manageable amount. It?s also largely focused on time; if I?m buying guns it?s time I could spend shooting, and shooting is much more enjoyable than driving around to buy or pick up new guns. At this point buying guns I won?t shoot is kinda not my bag. Although there?s more than a few disassembled to save space, lol. Also there?s a limit to the amount of guns I can justify to myself as gifts for hypothetical grandkids.

I have one or two guns that are planned to leave the permanent collection, although I?ve already selected the guns that I will use my ppts on in 2024 so those might be for 2025. I have one or two that I plan on purchasing. The nice thing about this system is the guns in the permanent collection keep getting nicer and nicer, because I?m not spending money on more guns. So instead of buying a new revolver next year maybe I?ll send the one I like best to Gemini customs for a full makeover. Maybe I?ll buy a really nice shotgun instead of 3 or 4 good ones.
