Tromix did recently design a Drop-in AK auto sear that does not require any receiver mods, but they are post-samples, not able to be possessed by the public.
What a story that was with DIAS for AK's.

The design was in the works before 5-19-86, and some form 1's were approved before the Hughes Amendment shut things down - the sears then in existence that were not installed into a host AK went into a sort of legal limbo - I recall that one guy got denied while some other SOT threw a bunch into AK's and was approved - lots of ill-will all the way around. I've examined and fired a Yugo RPK type AK with the DIAS, it ran 100% No AS pin hole in the receiver.

There are a bunch of transferable AK's out there that were built with used parts to begin with, that don't include the anti-bounce device, and were modified using hand drills and Dremels - then there are the ones built with care.

A Vollmer, Lafrance or Billistics built AK would be a keeper, a Hard Times Armory AK would be ah, well, how do you say this nicely? a restoration project.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.
