I need a hex/star wrench solution

I have a pouch of hex/star wrenches in my range bag for red dots, lights, qd mounts, rails and so on, and they are a pain. They take up space, are hard to organize, sort through and the worst part is tolerances are all over the place. Beyond metric and standard, every manufacturer seems to have a magical one-off size and when I need it that's the one that is missing!

I've used the big 3 piece keys but they are bigger and heavier so not really a solution other than to store in the truck.

There has to be a better way?

Still have a small container of smaller wrenches though, since the multi set doesn't have any small enough for crimson trace pistol lasers or various other small screws.

I just buy individual keys from McMaster and leave them close with whatever they are intended to service. They have some really really obscure sizes if you need them.

In my AR I keep my trigger adjustment and optic hexes inside the grip. For my handguns with dots I have dedicated hex tools for each pistol. I usually retain them on heavy duty magnets which doubles as a holder for screws and pins.

How many hex wrenches do you have? And how much space can they take up...they're hex wrenches. I have a tall prescription pill bottle that I repurposed and there are probably 8+ hex wrenches in there. They stay contained and organized enough. And it's a pill bottle so it's pretty darn compact.

Cut a piece of 1/4 inch tubing and jam them in, keeps them together...

^This. For $7 at Harbor Freight; I keep a set in my range bag and another set at home in my tool box.

Can't complain for the price and even with a year of heavy use, for $7 - who cares?

Chapman kit has been berry berry good to me. It is a bit pricey though.

That is very tempting... I get tired of buying kits that still don't have 'that one' size - and you never know the size, until you need it.

I've got bits that have literally twisted (wheeler, tekton) ... something more stout would be beneficial.
