Salinas is #1 right now in gang related shootings
I did a tiny bit of editing to display the inconsistencies in your post. I think that most people would say that a city with the highest rate of gang related shooting has more than its share of bad people doing bad things, and is different.

And pshaw, good luck with Cokeland trying to claim #1 status. The LE up there are shooting so many unarmed/unthreatening people that the gangs are scared to walk the streets

Totally kidding about the last part there.

The way they rated it is per 100,000. We all kid about it, but it's sad. One group of people move's into a town, let their kids go with no rules to speak of and we end with what we have. We can't get a CCW, have to alarm the house and if we protect ourselves' in our own home, we are under scrutiny, not them. Ever notice when a parent is interviewed after their son is killed, always, he was a good boy, he wasn't in no gang. He just dressed like that to fit in, he was getting his life together, he always made people laugh. Give me a break Salinas Parent's, do your Job. Take care of your kid's. It is not right to steal, rob or murder. And the sad thing is, they truly believe that if they don't get caught, it didn't happen.

It's true. Lots of agriculture around Salinas and neighboring cities=lots of illegal immigrants.

I moved to Seaside, from Long Beach back in the day. I was looking forward to living in a quiet little town without the constant shootings Long Beach had. First weekend there...3 shot dead in front of a restaurant, Salinas gang related. Seemed like there were shootings all the time. I moved back to Long Beach where its safe.

Salinas is not a place you want to be walking around at night that's for sure. I'm down there once a week or so for work and the locals don't even like being out in some places at night. A guy got shot by the cops a couple doors down from our location in Salinas a couple months back.

i used to live in salinas for 30 years but got out in1978. too bad the gangbangers can't shoot straight or we could give them enough ammo to get the job done right.

Now that my wife has quit her job, which required her occasional presence in Salinas, my only concern regarding Salinas is what is going to come out of there in a SHTF scenario. I suspect we'll have to blow the Highway 1 bridge over the Salinas river and man a barricade east of the Monterey airport, probably at the Hwy 68-Canyon del Rey split, to encourage the hordes to head North instead of West.

Most of the killings are done by kids. Salinas is just like any other town with violence. If you go looking for it , you will find it. No one in there right mind is going to walk down del monte ave at night. I don't see the city officials doing anything to stop the crime.

You seem to have the answer, please talk to the Mayor. It must be the fault of the law abiding citizens, the police officers, the city council, the mayor.
We all know that it is not the gang member's fault, it isn't the parent's fault that will not control their kids. What can the city do to deter these crimes before they happen that will not step on the civil rights of these animals.
The criminal element is here, their goal, drugs, money, anything they can steal, anyone they can rob to meet their goal. Without the help from the community the police can only re-act, not act on tips and information to stop the crime before or while they are happening.

I was born and raised in Salinas. My family moved in 2003 so now I live in Madera (this place sucks too)

My dad owned a business on the corner of sanborn and garner for about 10 years throughout the 90s. If anyone remembers, that corner was HELL. The gang "los vagos" had their hang out spot literally across the street from my dad's gas station. As I grew up I got to see drive-by, fights, robberies, and I even saw a cop kill a guy (NO JOKE)

The problem there isn't illegal immigrants, they probably are involved but that doesn't mean they are solely responsible. The problem is the stupid ignorant parents letting their kids do what ever they want.
My dad was strict with me and my brothers, if he saw one of our friends looked like a gang member he kicked him out or wouldn't let use hang out with him.

parents need an A $ $ whopping over there and need to become better parents.

Whoa!! I never knew it was that bad. I figured they were NOW just like any other city and that they may not be used to the problems that trouble larger cities . To be #4 in the nation for Murder with a relative small population as compared to LA,Oakland, or NY, that means there is some real problems.
