Thank you all for valuable suggestions. Today I went to the range and rented an Sig 320 m18 to compare. The result is strikingly different. My grouping with it was not just better, it was just incomparable, with it I was an average person at the range, with mine (CZ 75) it was embarrassing. This is a brand new gun, that has had less than 300 rounds through it. May be it is still me, I will try to find someone to try it out

I can?t really shoot 1911 style pistols very well. Dead on with M&Ps of all models and calibers.

As per my experience, guns do not exhibit gross inaccuracies with low round count. One can establish the accuracy of a pistol with the first magazine straight out from the box.

That said, I just took a couple of brand new shooters to the local range. Had them shoot a CZ75 SP-01 - all within hand-span or smaller groupings; by the end of the 90-mins we were at the range, they were taking the head off zombies (without hitting the innocent girl)!

However, the important question is - as per the everyone's recommendations above, have you already taken training from a competent instructor? Someone that can shoot competently as well teach competently?

How are your slow fire grouping for the 1911 vs M&Ps at 10-yards?

Apparently the origins of this chart are attributed to the 1971 Army Pistol Marksmanship Guide. I would recall an article where the author researched the origins of this chart - an NRA article from 50s/60s when Bullseye was one of the most popular pistol sport.... Take it as you wish.

The simple solution is sell the CZ and get the SIG

The reasoning is they are trying to minimize the recoil by putting a death grip on the gun. What ends up happening, is as they grip, the gun shakes and so when the gun is fired, the bullet holes are all over the place.

After about five minutes of this they complain that shooting is tiring. That?s when I figure out what they?re doing and correct their death grip.
I actually wanted to ask. I do notice that when I hold the gun very tight ( still not shaking) my shots get worse than when I am gripping it half power. But every single video on the YouTube tells you hold as tight as you can

Hold tight with the support hand, the way you would hold a rifle. Your dominant hand must be loose enough to prevent trigger finger from moving the gun.

The amount of grip is quite personal and it will depend on the style and level of shooting. For fast follow-up shots, tight grip helps. It also helps with more precise transitions. But you first have to get to the point where you're squeezing that level of performance. Until then, make sure you can hit the target where you aim, and that means only one thing - work on refined TRIGGER PULL.

Buy a Mantis X (google it). It changed my shooting dramatically. 5-10 minutes a day dry firing and you will notice remarkable improvement. It?s all about trigger control

I think finger on trigger placement is just a personal preference. Depends on hand size, gun size etc. Doug Koenig recommends using almost your first joint and find this works best for me also -

It is, similar to how hooking support finger in front of the trigger guard, or the exact location of the support hand is personal preference.

In "modern technique" anything goes as long as it can be measured, evaluated and it works better than the alternatives. In fact, it's not really a "technique" anymore, more of a set of principles within which you find what works for you and train that way. And if you think it's holding you back, you explore alternatives and measure how you do.

Took me a bit of time before I realized this fact. I sucked when using the pad of my finger as I was taught. I had to really concentrate to hit POA. But the first knuckle was always the more comfortable area for me when shooting starting from paintball then to airsoft. So i had years "shooting" using my first knuckle.

When i finally decided to ignore the "right" way and use my knuckle i wasnt throwing my shots left.

Sometimes one should just do what feels right for them not what is "right" by trainers/public at large.

karamba what range to you go to? I would be willing to try your pistol and you are welcome to try whatever I bring to shoot. I am close to PWG range and have a membership to SBRGC. Only catch is I don?t have much time to go shooting these days with a 9 month old occupying a majority of my free time.
