Ooops, my bad, I wasn't aware of that particular version. The one I know is about not being able to win a fight by missing fast. Never mind, I learned something new. Lol.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

You know a lot of people that have been shot. All depends on shot placement and luck. My niece was shot in the shoulder and face point blank with a .40S&W and survived. Had a friend shot in the face with a .22lr and he died.
Probably one of the best self defense shooting stories is Quarterboregunner's. Shot a dude in the lung with a .45acp and he lived, but just barely.

After the Miami FBI Shoot Out fiasco, some Departments went up in bullet weight for the 9mm. Mine did. We went to the 147 gr HydroShock for "penetration". I wasn't impressed. A few months after the switch over, Evens and Marshall came out with their studies which showed that the 147 gr was about 10% less effective in neutralizing a subject with 1 shot than the standard 9mm round. It's been a looonggg time, so I may be off a tad bit. I also do not know what particular 9mm rounds they were comparing.
Regarding shooting quickly. And old gunfighter once said, "Make haste slowly". Works here.
A local Police shooting here in my town with both the City PD and the SO involved with both carrying a 9mm. Somewhere around 100 shots fired, with the subject hit only a couple of times. But, it was at night, in a backyard, so fairly close range.Last edited by Sailormilan2; 09-12-2023, 5:13 AM.Comment

There was a video going around about a year ago of a neighbor dispute. The guy across the street had his fill of a couple that had been taunting him, or harassing him, something to that effect. The amount of ammo he spent was shocking, and he was hitting his targets at close range.sigpicComment

I shot in a bowling pin match way back when. I didn't have enough ammo to use my .45, so I used my 9mm. The only heavy bullet loads I had were 147 Hydra-shocks, so that's what I used. I literally saw one bullet bounce off a bowling pin. You could see the smudge of lead on the pin. After the Miami FBI Shoot Out fiasco, some Departments went up in bullet weight for the 9mm. Mine did. As for the FBI, they were morons. Everyone that ever read a magazine article that owned a 9mm knew the worst ammo you could use for defense was the Silvertip. The bullet was way too soft and would over-expand on a down pillow. That the FBI thought that was a good round for every agent to use is laughable.Comment

Had a friend commit suicide in high school with his dad's revolver. Had another friend was killed during a robbery at the gas station he worked at just after high school. Also had another friend that was at the 2017 Vegas shooting, but he wasn't hit, but did help load someone that was into a truck.
Can't find the obituary from Keith "Jimmy" Williams, but that was 1992ish.
My friend, Tim Mason killed in the robbery.
My friend Brian Bower that was shot in the face/head.
My neice that was shot during a botched hit.
Due to the sheer volume of people at the Vegas shooting, my buddy wasn't named in any articles.Last edited by wilit; 09-12-2023, 8:29 AM."If a man hasn't found something worth dying for, he isn't fit to live." - Martin Luther King Jr.

I recall a news article about a shootout after a police chase that ended on the Golden Gate Bridge (I think): "Police fired 85 rounds at the suspect, luckily nobody was injured."Comment

I like how they showed every angle possible so people can have a feel for what exactly was happening for each officer involved.I watched this video where several LA cops did mag dumps on this perp inside an SUV. The guy was finally wounded after 2 different shoot outs by multiple cops.
I love 9mm because it's cheap and readily available. But, is it enough firepower if someone is engaging you in a road rage on surface road or decide to have a shootout that is not in open lot.
I also have a 40SW pistol. Although it isn't a caliber debate, I wonder if my 9mm is just too watered down to even shoot through car doors. Is this why cops whip out AR15 for active shooter situations?
