    9mm enough power?

I watched this video where several LA cops did mag dumps on this perp inside an SUV. The guy was finally wounded after 2 different shoot outs by multiple cops.

I love 9mm because it's cheap and readily available. But, is it enough firepower if someone is engaging you in a road rage on surface road or decide to have a shootout that is not in open lot.

I also have a 40SW pistol. Although it isn't a caliber debate, I wonder if my 9mm is just too watered down to even shoot through car doors. Is this why cops whip out AR15 for active shooter situations?

All depends on shot placement and luck. My niece was shot in the shoulder and face point blank with a .40S&W and survived. Had a friend shot in the face with a .22lr and he died.

Probably one of the best self defense shooting stories is Quarterboregunner's. Shot a dude in the lung with a .45acp and he lived, but just barely.

Glad I don't know you, they seem to get shot a lot.

9mm is enough to blow your lung out, right? Sounds like enough power to me.

        Just one round? Maybe not.

One or two 30 round clips? Probably enough.

As mentioned, all about what the task at hand is and what you are shooting. Depending on how strong you are or how well you are handling the gun, muzzle flip in a stressful situation could be an issue too. Full sized 9mm 1911 can help with flip?but it might be too much to carry. Try carrying a few of your selections first.

Should be plenty of stopping power I'm sure LAPD uses some sort of self defense round

9mm is a good penetrating round but you have to use the right ammo and know what you want to shoot through.

A Hollowpoint 9mm is used to expand and trying to shoot at an aluminum sheet metal door, and all the possible stuff in between that with a fast moving ( made to expand bullet ) may not give the desired effects that the gunner wants.

The 9mm is fine just as the 40s&w and 45acp.

In regards to the 5.56 ~ the serial killer that use to live next to me when I was young , tried to murder 2 people that he was shooting at in a samurai Suzuki, using 5.56 fmj and he shot at the driver and the rounds only penetrated the driver and nothing hit the female passenger, that he also was trying to kill.

So unless you?re shooting a 50bmg or grenade launcher, nothing is certain that?s why guns have more than one bullet capacity.

i never knew about this story. went to Reed's around 1999-2000 a few times and thought it was too dim and dingy (ghetto) run by a couple young ladies with tatoo up their arms. it's still a shop that is broken into today.

                    i like .40 because it's a bigger round more capacity than .45.

While we could never compare the ballistic effectivity of a 9mm vs a 223, etc. I would say it's #shotPlacement. What was that saying? "You can't hit fast enough to make up for a miss."

Anyways... I wonder what Uncle Scott would say on the mag dump by Patrol...

The most powerful round won’t help you if you don’t hit your target.

Meanwhile, a weak 22LR will put the hurt on someone if you hit him at the right spot.
