My Glock 19 has some rust ~ :(

So I carry a Glock 19 in a jm custom iwb kydex holster ~ but these dang hot 100 + degree weather has me sweating a lot, and today I found some rust on the left side slide ( under the rear sight ).

My buddy has a Boo Boo and I?m not laughing

I thought Glocks could handle all dat, and the only first aid I had in house was some Hoppes #9 oil, going to see if I can get some penetrating oil to try and remove some of the rust.

Looks somewhat minor but I?ll see what I can do.

It’s a Glock though, so are you really concerned?

Just get some CLP on there and maybe start wearing an undershirt.

What were you doing looking under the rear sight?

The rust is more likely to be from a steel sight than from the slide unless the slide has been machined so that there is no tenifer left to protect against rust.

Thank you ~ This Glock 19 still has all the original equipment ( so plastic sights ), the rust is on the left side were the finger grooves are located ( gen 3 Glock ).

I thought the finish could resist the rust - but then again I was out working in 100 + degree weather and sweating a lot, i was out there for about 3 hours and I came in and undid my gear.

I?ll get some clp and I will see what happens ~ thank you good folks ~ I?ve been really busy these couple of weeks, so appreciate the advice.

A 1911 would have dissolved in the same setting.

Post some pics, is it residue from the glock factory grease (rust-colored)?

There is a thin bare metal tab on the bottom of the plastic rear sight, maybe that’s the source of your rust. But no matter, toss those oem plastics and put some steel sights on it.

Thank you guys, I?ll be rubbing oil and scrubbing and let you know if it improves.

I did the same exact thing with a Belgium Browning Hi-Power T series ( I believe only made in 1968 ), rusted the left side slide ~ again working in the summer heat. Dang it ~

PS ~ I?m looking into heine straight eight sights - as it?s just align dot on top of dot.

Use a full slide length holster. Never had an issue and I’m in a hot place usually

Thank you, but I did have the iwb with that full length barrier ( forgot the proper name ), I was sweating a lot and I should have checked the pistol and oiled it..
