All I know is the background check is completed long before the tenth day, and a person is usually told immediately so they can get their options, which is usually try again, or let go of the gun and give someone else a chance to buy it.

You wait until 240 hours have passed since DROS and then and only then do you find out. Until then, no opinion matters.

I think the key phrase here is "any more", so I can certainly understand the O.P.'s legitimate concern. Nobody screws things up more than the gov't!

But like everyone has suggested, the decision is in someone else's hands and there's nothing you can do about it, so just (try to) relax. Use the time wisely; read the owners manual while you're waiting. Shop around for (but do not purchase) any accessories you might want when you finally do pick up your firearm... grips, sights, holster, etc. Personally, if there was a problem, I think you would have heard about it already, but I don't know how things work at the DOJ. Maybe someone had a bad day this week and decided to be sadistic and not deny you until 239 hours into your waiting period. [Just kidding... just kidding... I wouldn't wish that on anyone.]

@Bullwinkle. The certain phrase in your post drew my close attention.
I used to be a native of a Golden State (for short 65 years)...not anymore. It is a sad state of affairs. The key phrase in your post was: "...the decision is in someone else's hands...".
Are we talking about God given constitutional rights? Just a reminder...we are talking about so called Second Amendment...US Constitution...remember those ancient scribbles written on a piece of parchment?
Nah....not in a God forsaken Newsomeland, formerly known as Commiefornia.

Not prohibited any more has me worried...
"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet
