Did I **** up my barrel rifling?

I was shooting Tula 223 in my lwrc AR. Extractor would rip the casing rim off and the spent casing would get stuck in the chamber. I dropped a brass cleaning rod down the barrel and started beating on it to get the stuck casing out. I was beating so hard on the rod I bent it, then snapped it in half. I noticed finish was missing on the rod too. Would doing this cause damage to the rifling & chamber?

If it's truly a brass rod, it shouldn't hurt anything.

It's probably fine. Brass is softer than steel.

But! Watch out! for cryin' out loud. Whatever you do! Do not! drop your rifle on the carpet.

After clearing the chamber, wet the rifling with Hoppes and maybe run a brush through it? Then finish with the rest of your barrel cleaning process.

You should be fine, but as a general rule avoid things that *can* go wrong. The old Murphy's law says that everything that *can* go wrong *will* go wrong. And at the worst possible moment.

As a previous poster said, stop shooting that Russian steel cased crap out of that nice rifle. Steel cased ammo has a tendency to stick inside the chamber after firing, making it a tough job for the extractor to do its job. Anyone who shoots 9mm steel cased ammo through a revolver (like 929 or 986) would know this.

Don't own "expensive" guns, that will not run reliably on ANY ammo.

Or, don't trust them with your life in a shtf situation, anyways....
