FIREARM MODIFICATIONS

Modifications are allowed for approved CCW listed handguns so long as the gun and all parts/modifications are legal in the State of California. All firearms/modifications must be inspected at the time of training to ensure the weapon is in safe working order.

If a modification(s) is done after the issuance of the license, you must complete the training/inspection as if it were a newly listed weapon. The training certificate will be added to your file.

The responsibility for the legality of firearm and its parts/accessories lies solely with the owner/applicant.
Any violations or failure to adhere to state laws/regulations will result in immediate suspension and/or revocation of license.

Correct but, that is ONE IA's POLICY and definitely not the law of the land.
Just think about all the states which don't have policies about qualifying with each firearm on one's permit. They can carry anything they deem fit to carry without any inspection at all. Of course, like I already stated, even in CA, my IA doesn't inspect any firearm. The approved instructor does "inspect" each one for a SN but that's it. THERE IS NO UNIFORM "GUIDELINES" FOR CONCEALED CARRY FIREARMS.

They'd rather see a $500 - $700 handgun placed into the (ahem) 'safe keeping' of the System than a $2,000 - $5,000 'race gun.'



Let's just say that the horror stories (some of them actually being true or bearing the whiff of credibility) are things you'd rather not see happen to any firearm, let alone your 'favorite' or a keepsake or similar.

I will confirm, having been one of the guys doing ballistics, that they're not treated with the love and respect as if they were mine. That's not to say we abused them, but we shot into a water tank with a heavy dose of chlorine. They're not wiped down to remove any chlorinated water that may have splashed on them (and it usually did) or oiled to prevent corrosion.

After we took our sample shots they were flagged and zip tied back into their respective boxes and sent back to evidence to rust.

There was really no time to goof off with firearms that came through with the workload we had. It was a "that's cool" when we got something unusual or rare and then it was back to regular programming sort of deal. YMMV at other agencies, but that's how things were where I worked not even a year ago.

no matter what people say about using modified guns for home defense, I will always keep mine stock. If my lawyer needs to spend 15 minutes defend my choice of weapon, I already at lost financially.

About your ccw, the 3 things you can change after qualification are: grips, sights, and magazines. If you change anything else, like milling the slide for red dot, change colors, trigger jobs, etc, you have to requalify with that gun.

get a $300 taurus 856 revolver. load it with 38sp ball ammo. get a couple of speedloaders. practice. properly secure it. join uscca. keep your home defense handgun setup simple, reliable, inexpensive.

if you need anything more, you are living in the wrong neighborhood and keeping the wrong associations in your life.

I do not believe that is universally true. Modifications may or may not be acceptable depending on the policies of the IA.

It would be advisable to speak with one's IA to ascertain what is acceptable in terms of modifications after the fact.

Other than a mounted light all stock is the way to go.
Only things ive upgraded are extended mag release and slide stop. Internals are all stock.

It did in the end, but it required time and money and it wasn't dismissed during early stages, so it accrued costs of both time and money.

It's similar concept to being a test case in the criminal court by raising a civil rights issue - even if you win in the end, it comes with a hefty price tag. You get the glory of being the precedent setting case, but at a huge cost.

You're right. The legal system has a pretty big price tag on admission.

But the "Flip Side" of your argument is that when any party gets an early immunity from participation in the system, you run the risk that the other side doesn't get "due process" on their claims.

The bottom line is that the dust cover engraving on former officer Brailsford's AR-15 dust cover may have been in really bad taste, it may have been really stupid, but it was irrelevant to his charges, and that's exactly what the court found.

The video of the shooting is very educational. I've always preached that every field problem needs one handling officer, all other officers assist. The only thing that will screw up a problem faster than having no handling officer, is to have two or more handling officers. The video clearly shows the result of multiple officers giving conflicting commands to a drunk (and now deceased) suspect.

Please cite the law that makes this mandatory for all IAs in CA. Guess what, there isn't one and most IAs I know of do NOT have that policy.

not gonna really matter. even if u use a bone stock gun, expect to see the inside of a court room, defending yourself in a civil suit, if not, a criminal case.

I second the "don't over-think it". If it you own it and it is accessible, it should be a reliable go-to gun.

Opinions are like A-holes so here we go. Get training. I think if for anything else as a source of legal reliance. You can show a jury that you were infact disciplined and that you performed your duty of self defense in accordance with your safe and practiced training. If you have a ccw you won't be able to plead "not guilty" so make sure you really meant to do what you did and know why you did it.

Who cares if you use (or carry) a $400 glock or $6000 safe queen? If you shoot a BG, cops are going to take you gun(s). You go to jail. You're going to spend a fortune in your defense and then there is the potential for civil suit by the BG's family. The reality is if you can afford your legal defense, the cost of a replacement gun is the least of your worries.

Can you cite any relevant statute that supports the bolded portion of your statement?

As far as I know, one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Therefore, one can always plead "not guilty" and the burden of proof rests upon the prosecution to secure a conviction.

I was told when getting my Exposed Firearm Permit that any mods to trigger will open door to lawyers claiming it was a negligent shooting and I didn't really mean to shoot, and everything I said about why I shot was just lies to cover up my mistake, and it was in fact my DIY zip gun mods created an accidental shooting, so I'm at least guilty of negligent homicide.
Pure FUD? Could be, but certainly sounds possible, depending on POLITICS of situation and DA or lawyer in Civil Case.
Recommended only mods to gun should be maybe night-sights.

IIRC NYPD got special "factory" Glocks with extra heavy trigger pull, for legal reasons.
