You know you have it bad when it's easier to get a ccw from Massachusetts as a California resident than a California ccw. Although many people know about the Utah permit, it may be worth it to go over that one as it's probably the most useful outside of California.

Oregon is "May Issue" for non-residents. I have not bothered to do a lot of research on Oregon since I do not travel there. My understanding is that non-residents can apply to any sheriff in the state.

Some are more willing to issue to non-residents then others, however, I could not tell you which ones are better for issuing to California residents. I do know that you must be a resident of a bordering state for them to consider issuing to you, which is obviously not a problem.

You may want to go to call a few of the sheriff's dept. up in Oregon and ask them what there dept. policy is regarding issuing to California residents. Some will not issue at all and others are more willing to.

As far as Washington goes I travel there several times a year as we have friends in Seattle area. Washington does not recognize Florida ccw but will recognize Utah. You may want to consider getting a Utah non-resident for that reason alone.

Washington does issue non-resident permits but I think you would be better off with Utah as there are lots of instructors in California. You would have to go to Washington to apply in person for their permit.

      I hope that helps!

As far as Massachustes LTC (License to Carry as it is called there)! I am just beginning the process. You must receive training froman Ma certified instructor.

The training does not, however, have to take place in that state. I will be doing my training as soon as I can schedule it with the instructor that I found. He is very busy as he is also Utah/Nevada instructor and he has to schedule me alone since there is not much demand for Ma permit.

You must apply directly to state police for a non-resident LTC. You can call them and ask them to send you application in the mail. Their telephone number is
        (617) 660-4600.

The fee for application is $100.00 and from what I have been told they will issue to non-residents for what is called ALP or "All Lawful Purposes".

They are highly discretionary and I have been told by the instructor that they will deny you for any arrest whatsoever. Even for petty crime that may have occured twenty or so years ago.

This is not the case with me since I have never had an arrest, however, instructor told me this so as not to waste my time and money if that were the case as they are that picky!

The permit is good for only a year and then you must re-submit fingerprints and $100.00 fee for renewal every year. I am definately going to pursue the Ma permit as I will be traveling there next year.

It is a Felony to even posses a firearm in Ma without a permit to carry. This is for non-residents. Residents do not need a permit to carry if they do not want to conceal but must have a registration card. Minimum one year in jail for posession of a gun without a permit.

Obviously, best to get one. As I have not gone through the training yet I cannot give you anymore details except that it is eight hours. I will post my experience once I complete process.

        I hope that helps!

Sorry your information on Alaska is not true. That is only for residents of Alaska. If you move there you must reside there for 90 days before you can CCW with no CCW.

Now if you had an out of state CCW that offers reciprocity with Alaska you are good to go. As far as I know Alaska will reconize any others states CCW.

I had not heard that, however, I do know that Alaska is probably the most gun friendly state in the country. More people own guns in Alaska then in any other state.

According to NRA seventy percent of residents eighteen years old and over own at least one firearm!

Alaska honors every other State's CCWs even if the other State doesn't offer reciprocity.

My CA CCW is valid in Alaska and CA doesn't recognize any other State CCW.

I agree. It's been reported that some CA agencies who do issue CCWs frown on an applicant who's a CCW collector. Like Gotgunz mentioned, it's considered not healthy and your motivations could be questioned.

Sounds silly, but until we have Shall Issue, it's their game and their rules.

I have heard a few things like that myself, however, in my case living in LA County there is little chance that I could get a ccw anyway and even if it were possible a logical explanation for so many ccw could be that I do a lot of traveling, which I do!

I just received my renewed Nevada CCW in the mail today. I took the class on the 11th and filed the paperwork on Monday the 13th. And received the new CCW permit today the 30th. That's just a few days past two weeks. Not bad for Clark County considering last time it took about two months.

The Florida ccw is better then the Utah ccw. By that I mean that the Florida ccw covers all of the same states as does the Utah ccw + two more!

Florida and Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania does not recognize the Utah ccw (Yet)! and Florida does not recocgnize any non-resident ccw. A resident Utah ccw is recognized in Florida.

Since I travel to Florida once a year the only way to carry there is to have a Florida non-resident ccw. I have the Utah as well!

The FL and Utah permits are both good for 28 states each. FL give you FL and Kansas that Utah does not. Utah gives you WA and MN which FL does not. The Utah permit is good in PA and has been for the last year or so.
