I'm surprised this deal is not getting more press on the boards. Any reason why?

It's definitely a good deal. But it does have a couple drawbacks. First, I think it's only 12 ga steel. 10 ga or less is far better. It's also only 30 min fireproof. 1 hour or more is far better. And I suspect most people here already have a safe.

Anything comparable with 8-10 gauge and 1hr (for a similar price of course)?

The cannon looks bigger. I have one verysimilar to the winchester one mine said american safe co or something like that. Both safes seem to be good. if you can get the bigger safe get it. Youll end up filling it. Im on my second one.

              Anyone know how shipping works?

I'm trying to see if, after shipping, it's still a good deal and I can't find any valuable info on shipping on Costco's website.

I really need a bigger safe- this one just might be the ticket!

Nevermind I just went through the motions of checkout and it looks like shipping is free. COOL!

where do you guys keep these things? without being too specific... Im just trying to figure out how one would move this thing to your desired location. IM assuming most people keep this kinda safe downstairs in a less trafficked room?

I just checked and this safe is NOT approved by the CA DOJ, just so you guys know.

I'm glad I checked because I almost ordered one. Not going to bother now. I had put in my CC info and everything but remembered to check at the last minute.

Based on my limited reading there are multiple ways to meet the requirements. It can be on the list or meet a couple other requirements.

The Costco page says it meets or exceeds the CA minimums.

                      Here's the standards.

Interesting. I found a list of approved safes on ag.ca.gov and it wasn't on the list- I guess I just assumed the list was complete. Why I had the insane idea that the list on one of CA's websites would be complete I just don't know. Maybe I can't be taught.

Imagine that, a state agency creating a list that is both comprehensive and correct. That would rank right up there with pigs flying and hell freezing over.

My understanding is a safe does not need to be on any "list" to be DOJ approved.... but it does need to meet the requirements stated in the link above.

Anybody bought one of these. Will they move it into the garage without gouging you for an extra fee? The sale expires today and I just found it and am really itching to pull the trigger.

Weird, I think they extended it. I thought the sale originally ended Aug 31st,and I had missed out (I forgot). Might have to order one now... I have access to a heavy appliance dolly so it shouldn't be hard to move it.
