How to sale gun out of state.

I have a family member who wants to buy one of my guns but he lives out of state. How do I get him the gun and get it out of my name? Would it be possible to do a ppt at a ffl when I visit him next. State is Oregon.

PPT is only for 2 CA residents. You can bring the gun or ship it to OR, transfer at FFL but it won't be a PPT. It will be out of your name when it's transferred regardless whether CA knows.

Call and ask a store there to do the transfer, they'll tell you the steps. I did the same to my friend in NY. Easy

I'm not sure if you've had your coffee yet this morning.

A PPT is a private party transfer. Which means it's going from one non FFL holder to another non FFL holder. This term is used in other states as well as ours.

CA and others require that all PPT be done at a dealer and have a background check done on the buyer. Oregon is also one of those states that require a PPT to be done at a dealer and have a background check done on the buyer.

However, since the people involved are not residents of the same state this would not be a PPT. It would be an interstate transfer. As such, federal law since 1968 has required all interstate transfers to be done by a dealer in the state of the new owner.

As for getting it out of the sellers name, that isn't going to happen. Once CA puts it in your AFS record, there it stays. Don't bother to fill out the no longer in possession form as all that does is let CA know what your family member's home address and personal information is.

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Get him to find an ffl that will accept a transfer from you. Some ffl's only accept shipments from other ffl's. Get the ffl contact info, then call him to make sure you're in synch, then ship the gun to the ffl. You can't use the USPS, search cg for how to ship a pistol. The ffl will transfer it to your family member with a 4473, etc.

I've only sold & shipped long guns out of state, The main issue is if the FFL used on the receiving end will accept from a private party. If they and have no other option, then it ads cost to ship from an 01. Which you or your family member can pay. PAX
