Hey y?all! Avid fisherman here so I know what it?s like to have your secret spots. I had my (not so secret) spot in the hills but recently the roads got closed. Anyhow, I am hoping to get some tips on finding decent area to go out and target shoot on blm land. I planned to go out on the 15th but the forest roads are closed until June so any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated! Forgot to mention I’m in SoCal (LA area).

Hodge road which is not blm. Use ony x maps. No one should ever give there hunting shooting spots up. No where in angeles national forest is open to taget shooting unless at established range.Comment

I haven?t heard many good things about hodge road. Used to go to shooting areas established by forest service. But they recently released a statement about road closures until June. And both my locations are now inaccessibleComment

I drive semi weekly/monthly 1.5 hours to my not so secret spot (norcal), someone will probably PM you with a place if you show to be aligned with them, you know 2a this and political that... Good luck.Comment

So, here's an idea...
When someone asks about shooting spots and you have one, send them a PM.
Ask them to provide a little info about themselves.
In that message outline the rules for using the spot, such as no glass, discarded items as targets, pick up their trash and brass, etc..
You could also offer to meet up with them for a range session.
The goal here is to perhaps make a new friend, share the love of shooting/firearms, and preserve the shooting area.
With places to shoot being so few and far between these days, giving a little is a win-win, imho.

I tried. No one wants to share spots. So, here's an idea...

Now I just go camp pendleton as the cost of gas and time to travel is equal to the range fee at pendleton.
They already have steel targets set out at increments of 100 or 200 to 1000. I can use paper targets, and they have spotting scope with RO willing to help you zero. They have that "multi-position wood stand" which you can use to shoot different positioned shots. They have benches, and a padded mat for prone shooting.
And I can take upto 5 with me, (i have offered various CGers, guess they have their unshareable blm spots though.)
I can rapid fire, holster draw fire, etc. I can do almost anything I can do at BLM without worry from authorities. And don't ever have to worry about r-tards, and the uncivilized individuals of the wild.
I'd still go to blm if I knew of a spot, but for now Camp Pendleton it is. Only 20-30mins from home vs 1.5-2 hr drive to blm.Last edited by CheapBloke; 03-22-2023, 9:05 AM.Comment

I'd pay for Pen if I lived near there. BLM is good for footwork and blasting tannerite but having steel already at range saves time. Can you bring and use a shooting barricade?Comment
-
I'm sure they allow it if asked. I know you can bring a grill and bbq there behind the firing line by the parking lot/bleachers they have set there.
I just looked up shooting barricade, and that is what I meant by the multi position wood stand lol, they have some there already.Comment

Yea..exactly?but realistically I was thinking more helpful hints and not requesting anyone?s specific coordinates. Like I said I know what it?s like to have a spot you wouldn?t otherwise share. I?ve just never gone to blm land so I?m not aware of decent strategies to select a spot. But thanks for posting anyway.Comment

I appreciate this comment the most. Like I said to someone else?s sarcasm, I?m not interested in hijacking anyone?s spot. Just looking for some help since I?ve never gone to blm land to shoot. So, here's an idea...
