    Polar Bear Problems

I enjoy a good bear thread and found this on Shotgun World.

Gist of thread: Husband and wife in Canada live in close proximity to Polar bears. Husband will be gone for work soon and insists wife keeps one firearm handy for protection.

    Her choices are:

    Rem 700 .30-06
    Rem 11-87 12 Gauge
Winchester model 94 .32 Win special

(note, later she adds a Mossberg 590 A1)

    See thread for details:

Hi everyone! Welp, it's that time of the year again in northern Atlantic Canada and the curious little white devils also known as polar bears are afoot in the hundreds chasing the seal herds south. Gun safe's are usually opened by residents know, outside lights kept on, vehicles kept unlocked...

Agree with shotgun and slugs advice.

I think a shotgun with slugs is probably the best option

build stronger walls and just use an m&p 2.0. aim for the bear's head from the murder hole.

          I'm a .30-06 guy, so I'd go with the .30-06.

Dunno , I would start with Glock 20 loaded with some BB or Underwood HC to keep on me all the time. A Beretta 1301 with the correct slugs as a more compact shotgun to keep handy. Then the longer shotgun and rifle . The .30-06 seems useless unless you want to reach out further, but a scoped rifle is not a great choice for close work.

Yogi Bear gets the 12 gauge and BooBoo gets the .32 Win Special.
We don't want to see any over-kill.

shotgun that is what many guides and alaska wardens use.

Bob Peterson in 66 killed a large adult with a 44 mag . 5 shots IIRC.
458 Win Mag would be my choice .

Unless she's not recoil sensitive, I would've picked a semi-auto 12 gauge for her instead of a pump.

I'm with FNGGlock, something like the short Beretta 1301 Tactical is a better choice for recoil and fast handling. One of the new Beretta A300 Patrols would be perfect.

                          Supposedly Alaskan guides carry buckshot.

I'd take the 11-87 for sure.

But really, it's not a concern. Global warming will kill them all very soon.

That's leftist disinformation. Populations of Polar Bears was on a big upswing despite the supposed global warming. At least until wealthy Chinese in China started a Polar Bear pelt craze. Now the indigenous people up north are poaching a lot of Polar Bears to sell to the Chinese.
