Looking to Buy A Quick Access Lockbox

I use the Fort Knox. It is absolutely perfect. No electronics to fail when you need them. I have 2 of them, found one used on Craigslist for 25$ that looks at least a decade old and works as good as my new one. It takes only a second to open and keeps my small kids out. The reviews on all the electronic ones scared me off. Even one person saying it died unexpectedly is too much. I still keep it on my closet shelf as I don’t trust anything around toddlers.Comment

Pro Tip: Mechanical Simplex Lock > ANYTHING with electronics/batteries
Electronics/batteries can fail...usually at the worst possible time. Consider also if you need a box big enough to store a holstered weapon."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

this is the one i would get if i didn’t have one of the lower end versions already.
All V-Line Cases and Cabinets will be shipping with a two year supply of Cortec corrosion inhibitor! V-Line Ind. introduces the new “BRUTE” super duty quick access pistol box. The “BRUTE” is the perfect solution for keeping hand guns and valuables safe and out of reach of the wrong hands.…
like L84cabo, i would never go for anything electronic. was just at a vendor show and a guy was showing me one of the ones with a fingerprint scanner and it took him several tries to get it to open.Last edited by xblax619; 03-18-2023, 6:49 PM.sigpic

Another vote for Fort Knox. I've had mine for about 12 years now and it's perfect - works just a good as day one. I know other people with them that have the same experience.
Good luck.NRA & CRPA member

I have a Fort Knox, V-Line & Shotlock. The shotlock and V-Line are comparable. The Fort Knox is a tank compared to the other 2"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them" - Richard Henry Lee

Another recommendation for a Fort Knox handgun box. Has a Simplex mechanical lock, non-electronic. I used one for a few years when we had children (son's friends and cousins) visit the house. We no longer have that situation anymore, we gave the box to my son to hold on to until he has kids._______________

In case anyone is wondering it fits my Glock 20 with a magwell and surefire 300 and an extra mag no problem.Comment

The problem with the "Best" articles online is that they are always really just an Amazon ad. The only safe listed in this ad worth owning is the Ft Knox.I don't have one myself. But if I were to buy one, I would start with Google.
"Best Handgun Vaults"
One of the results I came up with

There are good products out there that aren't even available on Amazon and will never make those lists.
A safe with a Simplex lock will be made of thicker steel so they will also rest a pry attack better than the Chinese made electronic ones. FAS1, Ft Knox, Vline are examples and they will also probably last you a lifetime.Comment

Chicken Dinner
I have two of the Fort Knox with the simplex locks.
1/8” thick solid steel.Last edited by tsmithson; 03-23-2023, 6:08 AM.Comment

A good option for sure, but just to keep it accurate the Ft Knox is 1/8" (10GA) steel on the body and 3/16" (7GA) steel on the door. I'm not aware of a handgun safe that is currently being made with 1/4" steel.I have two of the Fort Knox with the simplex locks.
1/4” thick solid steel.
3/16" (7GA) all around is the thickest steel on a handgun safe currently and it also uses the Simplex lock.Comment

My bad.
1/8” is quality for a small lockbox.Comment

I have a vaultek. Very rarely needs to be charged so that is just an extra reason to keep it charged... or get a mechanical one insteadComment
