GI silent slings cost $10 or so. Pretty much every other sling out there costs more.

I have three GI silent slings, plus a Viking Tacticool sling and a few of the Blue Force fancy Tacticool slings. I can see if you are going to drill hard with an AR or AK, the Tacticool slings offer a bit more options and comfort but there is nothing wrong with the $10 GI silent sling either. It's just two different approaches to the same job.

The Tacticool sling are kind of nice if you are going to need to WEAR and do day to day functions while wearing your rifle like in a SHTF or multi-day training, the ability to quickly select sling length and cinch it up if you are doing arduous physical activity while wearing a rifle is nice and if you train and drill switching from pistol to long gun and back, the Vickers and Viking slings are excellent for that. But they cost a hell of lot more than a $10 GI sling.

I am a Marksman ( Rifleman ) whop uses a GI sling, the nylon version is thinner which makes securing the keeper easier .

A rope sling is either tied around the barrel and butstock , or fed through the swivels and knotted .

        Hope this helps

Many years back, I bought a half-dozen 1" green canvas GI style slings at a gun show---very high quality with good metal---all six found homes on !0-22s, Mini 14s and even an 870 Police shotgun---wish I had bought a dozen! Price at the time was $3 bucks each and the guy had a huge box full... Turns out, they were made in Israel for UZI Model A. Looked at pictures of UZIs and there is the same sling...

I had one of those for my Uzi carbine when I had it, worked great.
