1911 vs. Glock wars! Which one is better!

1911 is a proven firearm with over one hundred years of history. Although, there are many variations on the market today the design is time tested to be a great weapon!

Glocks are made of polymer plastic and although light in weight they are not made nearly as well as a Kimber 1911! I currently have have a Warrior 2 and it is a phenomenal gun!

I would take it over a Glock any day! Just my personal opinion!

This will become a long thread for sure.

Firstly, the most unreliable guns I have seen are the expensive high end 1911s. Since they have been tightend shimmed etc to shoot uber accurate they tend to jam. Older rattle prone and war vintage 1911s are very reliable.

I tend to think the Glock (close to a 30 year old platform is marginally better). My reasons are as follow.

1. Higher ammo capacity (somewhat of a moot point in CA).
2. Lighter so easier to carry.
3. No manual safety to flip in times of high stress.
4. More plastic means less potential corrosion issues.
5. There is something like one third fewer parts in a Glock. Though I haven't done an exhaustive study of the differences, less parts sounds like an advantage.

Many have trusted their lives to both systems and I'd feel well protected with either. Outside of CA I would definately go w Glock due to ammo capacity.

Some 1911 models are more reliable then others! I have fired quite a few different variatios prior to buying the Kimber! From my point of view the Kimber was the best.

Taurus makes a much cheaper model 1911 and it did not even compare in quality to the Kimber. Again, just my opinion!

you keep praising the 1911 Kimber and trashing the Glock but you still havent given your solid facts on your personal opinion.

I have a nice gun.it`s better than that gun(glock) and I know why!It doesn`t pinch my finger every time I shoot it,that`s why,and it doesn`t feel like a lump of concrete in my hand either!

Okay, I like the Kimber because it feel much "tighter" to me when it fires! The slide is really smooth and feels "Married" to the frame. Kimber manufactures them this way,

The Glock feels almost toy like. (No, I am not implying that any deadly weapon is a toy)! By that I mean that it feels cheaply made to me. I know that Glocks are not cheap in price!

I also like the fact that the Kimber is heavier. I don't like the light weight of the Glocks!

Looks-wise 1911 ftw. Reliability-wise Glock hands down. Since I've owned both, I would choose the 1911 over a Glock. It just feels that much better in my hands and once they're properly broken in, they shoot like a champ! I do intend on getting a G19 though. Its on my list but not before my 1911 choices. You won't go wrong with either choice IMO so get both!!!

Not a good comparison IMO, Polymer vs. Polymer same caliber etc....would be the better comparison..
