Buying Handguns while on vacation

I have an FFL 03 and COE and will be traveling to a free state to visit friends.

If I stop by an LGS and happen to see something I like, can I buy a California compliant on roster handgun and bring it back into California, or must I ship it from an FFL in that free state to an FFL here in California?

This is for a modern handgun not a C&R.

You can only buy a C&R gun and bring it home with you. Non C&R must be shipped to your CA FFL01. That was how I bought my Ruger SR22 in Arizona when they were brand new, there were a ton of them out in Az and no California dealers had them in stock. Then six months after I bought it, it fell off the roster.

It didn't "fall off the roster". It was removed from the roster. There's a big difference.

Geezus. You have an 03 FFL and you aren't sure if you can use it to buy a non-C&R handgun out of state, cash and carry and bring it back? You're giving 03 FFL holders a bad name.

Its hard enough finding shops that even know what an 03FFL is and are willing to sell C&R firearms to an 03FFL holder. I imagine they'll laugh at you if you tried to cash and carry a non-C&R handgun with an 03FFL. Or they'll tell you "nice try" Fed boi.

You cannot cash and carry any non-C&R firearm with an 03FFL anywhere at anytime period. A C&R 03FFL license is for C&R firearms its why the license is called a C&R license. Go figure right?

AFAIK - and I have FFL 03 - it's kind of a fake FFL just to allow you to buy ammo (and of course C&R). No one considers it an actual FFL. If you're into C&R great. Otherwise it's a workaround for ammo and not related to a real FFL.

I agree 100%, however, it is nice being able to shop for ammo online and have it delivered to your house. During the the dark days of the scamdemic and lockdowns when ammo was difficult to come by, having the ability to search the inter-webs for ammo and delivered to my home was great!

It?s because they made a change to slide I think if I remember right. They added a wear pin? I was lucky and got one while it was still listed. Love that little gun.

You are right, it was removed and didn't fall off. I think it was Ruger changed something slightly in the manufacturing process and the clowns at the DOJ removed it.

Falling off signifies that the renewal fee simply isn't paid for various reasons.
