In southern CA (dry) berms always have enough dust, particularly at shooting ranges. Every impact is a small puff that is clearly visible without any magnification and without even having to concentrate to see it. It provides the same visual feedback that puddles provide - the location of the impact relative to the point of aim. Depending on what type of BBs you're shooting they might not have enough power to kick up some dust, although I believe they should.

Puddles and water surfaces with BBs are fine, just not something that we should be doing with firearms. It's one of those safety issues that doesn't seem like a big deal and often isn't, until one day it is. Bullets deflect and ricochet on their own and shooting at water significantly changes angles and increases chances of bullets escaping over the berms, which is a big deal. At my local range (outdoors) 15 yards targets are at the slight downward angle and I can often see two impacts in my peripheral vision, one at about 25 yards and another high on the berm. It's the hard desert ground that's deflecting the same way water would. It's fine at the range that is designed to catch all those bullets, but in the nature shooting at water at low angles is akin to shooting in the air.

In SF, one man's puddle is another's toilet. Watch the splash back.

When I was 11 yr old and my brother was 7 yr old and I shot him with a bb gun, he hurt a lot.

Yeah, just another "story" from the story telling creep. I wonder if we'll get another visit from the kid, requesting proof reading assistance?

Not sure which story is better, the OC "port city," Bersa carrying traveler or this one?
