    What's your shooting game?

List & describe your friendly shooting game or competition when you & your buddies go plinking.

I have not done this yet but got the target ball.
You start out with a 6 inch self healing target ball dropped out around 25 yards in front of firing line. All shooters draw straws or pick numbers out of a hat what ever it takes to figure out shooting order. Each shooter takes their shot & if you hit it you move on to round 2, miss and your out and so on till last shooter standing. I say use the ball because it will move further away and possibly behind bushes and whatnot. Shooter position is shooter's choice but I think you should only be allowed one gun.
Option...all shooter's have to put in a buck & last one standing takes the pot.

Usually if the space allows we go as small as doing a dueling tree, or just improvise a course of fire under time with penalties for not making hits in the A or C zones. For longer ranges, we kind of play HORSE by shooting targets and walking back 25 yards.

Hit that tiny object at ____ distance. I built a 6 paddle dueling tree and a 4 legged Texas Star clay holder for bird shot.

Same here. Everyone I used to go shooting with has, literally, passed away. The very few who have invited me to go out with them are not individuals I'd care to 'go shooting' with.

I've found, over the years, that it's more relaxing, entertaining, less expensive, and, ultimately, productive to 'do my own thing.'

Ultimately, it's 'fun' to go shooting with buddies; but, 'games' were never part of the equation.

I like most everything about the shooting sports from single-shot Sharps rifles to FALs and Single-Action Armies to various semi-auto pistols---I prefer quality firearms that hold and increase in value... As for completion shooting---I've done action pistol shooting and used to do Cowboy Action Shooting in it's earliest form until they started doing silly things like riding a broomstick "horse" before shooting and then I quit---still loved the guns---SAAs, lever rifles and Win 97s...
Lately (actually many years now), my shooting buddies (those that are still alive) and I like to engage in what we call; "22 Afternoon"---that is after our morning blasting with 9mm, 45, 223, 308 and other guns, they are put away and we have a nice lunch we've prepared and brought with us---and then we break-out the 22s---rifles and pistols and shoot nothing but 22s the rest of the day---fun time---like the old shooting galleries of long past... This is a family and friends affair and really brings us all together...
And BTW, I've met some of the very finest people on the planet in the shooting sports...

With club/squad buddies - anything that is laid out for us by the stage designer in any local match...

With family/friends, from work, etc. - while they would like to go shooting with me, no one wants to go against me...

                    We play horse.

Or just mimic a shooting stage. Using shot timer and scoring hits.

                      Our old favorite:
Two shooters, 6 shot revolvers, one speed loader reload each.
(You can use semi pistols but keep to six rounds per mag.)
Targets: 5 clay pigeons evenly spread out in a line for each shooter from 10 to 25 yards.
Pigeons can be propped up with sticks or empty shotgun hulls, leave them laying flat on the ground to make it much harder.
Start from low ready or whatever you decide, both shooters start at the same time by signal or count.
Shoot the pigeons from closest to farthest.
Winner is whoever hits all five first.

You will have to be accurate.
You will have to focus carefully on sight alignment and trigger pull.
You will have to be quick.
You will probably have to reload.
                      You will have fun.

Loser sets up the next round and picks up the brass.

All by myself, my Red Dot sight equipped Buckmark or a .22 rifle:
Flat ground, empty shotgun hulls, standing only, throw one on the ground about 5 yards out and chase it out to 100 yards or you can't see it anymore.
Try to constantly keep it moving.
                      Have spare loaded mags ready.

Potatoes are cheaper. Can hit them with a bit of spray paint for color if you need, depending how you place them.

We set up a 2-gun course and run it all day. Barricades, mix of steel and IPSC targets. Timed and scored accordingly. It gets pretty competitive. I can't get enough of it.
