    Ear Protection Question

Im in the market for some ears I prefer earplugs over the ear muffs. Just wanted to know what you guys think(pros and cons of each) and any suggestions for some quality earplugs would be great. I plan on shooting mostly indoors.

I double up. I have a set of foamies in my ears rated for 30 nrr and then a set of Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic noise reducing muffs. The HLs are cheap at about $50/pair and do a good job of cutting out noise but amplifying anything below a certain decibel level so it's still possible to have a conversation or hear range instruction.

I double up as well. I put ear plugs in the ears and 30dB passive muffs over the plugs in my ears.

When I shoot rifles or shotguns, I use Peltor's ear plugs. They are a good company and make a ton of products. I can't use ear muffs, as I have a fat face and can't shoulder the weapons with ear muffs on.

If I'm shooting handguns or am shooting indoors, I double up with Peltor plugs and Peltor Ultimate 10 (or something like that) ear muffs.

When shooting indoors I use both plugs and muffs. When outdoors I use plugs only (it's not as hot).

Got mine from Linda at Earplugs USA during a gun show.

I just use a set of foam ear plugs. Have been shooting for many many years and my hearing is still not too bad, unless when my wife speaks.

Use all the ear protection you can... I was young and invincible once, and now that I am in my 50's I have a constant ringing in my ears...

i have the peltor combat plugs. they're ok. not the most comfy and take a bit to get it in my ear just right.

i dont like using muffs as i typically have gel in my hair :\ haha

also i have the fat-face thing going on so i cant use muffs properly with a rifle

I bought a bag of the foam E.A.R. Soft plugs on line. They are usually enough if I'm shooting Highpower at an uncovered range with "normal" (.223 or .308) rounds going off around me. However, when I shoot at a covered range or I have someone shooting something big (like .338 Lapua) or anything with a brake, I double up. I'm currently using passive muffs (when I use them), but I'm going to pick up a set of the electronic ones soon as it is hard to hear range commands when doubled with passive protection.

I always wear (and recommend) earplugs combined with muffs. The best combo of course is to use electronic muffs. Even with plugs, it's still possible to hold a conversation this way.
