The one you'll actually shoot. I see very few people shooting their tactical shotguns anywhere - trap and skeet places are not for them, and neither are pistol or rifle ranges.

But if you shoot both and especially if you have a place to run-and-gun steel, M4 is the ticket. Running a shotgun fast is quite different experience from running a revolver fast.

Yup, I have no place to shoot a tactical shotgun. The rifle/pistol range doesn't allow them, and the shotgun range only allows shooting at little frisbees.

to me it would depend on what handgun and shotgun i owned already.
i am a minimalist, so if it doesn't add to my capabilities, i probably won't spend the money.

Colt Python, only shotgun I can think of that I would pick over it, would be an 1897 Trench Gun.

I'd get the Python but only to sell it off later for something I'd rather have. Why you ask? I have an M1 Super 90 that I'm more than happy with and I also have a 70s (IIRC) vintage Python in Royal Blue. So...I think the Python would have the better resale value.

Who doesn't like a Colt Python, but its a no brainer go with the M4 it checks all the boxes.

Clones are not up to the same durable combat reliability / proven system as a Benelli M4 / 1014 original SG.

Those SG's copies may be nice - but we are speaking about the Benellis that have a proven record in military and combat / SD roles -

While i dont have the precise model number referenced, i have both the m4 and python. Different tools and a different purpose. My vote, get both when you are ready. The prices have stabilized considerably
