How does that work? The website says to bring your own targets, staple guns, etc. Do you walk out 800 yards while everyone else waits?

I go to camp pendleton.

You can set paper targets out to 300. Or use their steel target out to 1k.

I try to go once a month if I can.

Of course, you'd have to go with either me or someone with access. $30, no time limit, no ammo restrictions, no compliancy restrictions, almost no restrictions at all.

No. It is considered intermediate.

You shoot their steel targets which are HUGE and not any sort of challenge for a skilled longrange shooter.
The big targets are necessary so that unskilled shooters can make a few hits on them and be happy with their shooting experience at the range.

If a range only put out small enough targets to actually challenge skilled longrange shooters, the unskilled shooters would not be happy because they would not get many hits.
I find that a skilled longrange shooter can hit most of the longrange steel targets at most public ranges with an iron sighted rifle.
That's how big the steel targets usually are.

I don't remember how far out Pala lets you set paper targets.
300yds is common at many ranges through because any further than that and it makes the line breaks really long for people to walk out to targets.
It's also common that weekends have a shorter maximum paper distance of 100yds or 200yds allowed vs weekdays because weekends are busier.

Pala has large and small steel targets and you can bring your own. You drive your vehicle out if you need to go to 300+ yards to change/setup your targets.

I like my free desert. We bring an EZ UP, Shooting bench, bbq, coolers, chairs, firewood, cots and sleeping bags. All to ourselves and ANYTHING goes!
