The 45 ACP is a good round---no doubt, but a 9mm would have done the same thing with a headshot...

No way. .45ACP has enough ooomph to penetrate the canopy glass, the pilot's head, the copilot's head, the back side of the canopy, and STILL have enough energy to go through 5 more japanese fighters the same way...

9mm would only go through the 1st fighter's canopy glass and bounce off the pilot's skull, ballistics don't lie!

Also read on the internet from a friend's buddy's poker buddy's 2nd cousin that after that documented event published by the Japanese POW's newsletter, all air crews jumping out of an airplane is to equip with a Thommy gun so they can continue the aerial dog fight with the attacking Zeros using the formidable 45 ACP of course.
