    Long term gun storage

My company is sending me overseas for a one year assignment.
Seems like a nice opportunity and I don't want to say no..
If I go overseas, I could hire a house sitter to take care of my crib, but what do I do with the pew pews..
Leave them in the house in a locked safe.?
    Are there any other options..?

I found a few previous discussions but a bit out dated..

Thanks in advance for your advice...

Put them in silicone socks and leave them in the safe with a golden rod dehumidifier. They’ll be fine.

        Option A.
Leave them in your safe and only you have the combo/key to the safe.
Legally, the house sitter cannot have access to any of your firearms.

        Option B.
Pay a CA FFL dealer to store them for you.

        Option C.
Transfer them to a CA resident, who will then transfer them back to you once you return.

        Option D.
Sell them and buy new firearms when you return.

The only thing I would add to the above is to make sure you have serial numbers and make/model available. Then, if anything goes sideways, you can provide info to LEO's.

I'd go with the safe, but they all have pros and cons.

I wanna add to Option A, insure them itemized line by line, with serials.

It really depends on if we are talking 5-20- or 100+ guns.

                  Thanks guys!
Fire and theft are my primary concerns for now. I may have to explore option B "Pay ffl" in my area (East Bay)

Unless they are hard to replace, or sentimental, it probably cheaper, in the long run, to sell them then buy again. I bet your going to pay hundreds a month for an FFL to store them. Sell the Glocks for $450 now, buy new ones at $550 next year, etc. Or spend the money on a quality gun safe, bolt it down well and have insurance.

Bolt your safe to the floor, set up some cameras, and have a buddy (separate from the housesitter) stop by every once in a while. A year isn't that long.

As others have said I’d go with the safe bolted to the floor, cameras and an alarm system. Have a friend check your house frequently.

Most AMSEC safes are clearly listed as RSCs on their website. There are many (other) vendors who sell real safes as well.

                          This not a brand-specific issue.

I hid my safe inside a custom built cabinet and used a couple of pin bolts to keep it closed when I'm away. The average thief lacks the IQ to get past that impediment. As long as you keep the rest of your cabinets unlocked, they will just give up and move onto the other cabinets as they are creatures of the path of least resistance.

Correct. Anything with a "TL30" designation is a REAL SAFE.

They are expensive and really really heavy.

A number of companies make them. These are what jewelry stores use overnight- Their insurance demands it, and they have to be serviced once a year too for insurance.
