    Ammo Purchase?

I know this has probably been asked and if there's a thread about it, I haven't found an actual answer. But, how the hell do I purchase ammo in California? I stocked up years ago and haven't bought ammo in a while. Wanted to try a heavier weight bullet as an experiment.

I just talked to a local shop and they said I can only purchase ammo if I have a firearm registered to the address on my ID. But I've moved since purchasing my last firearm. He said I could also do a one-time BG check but it takes up to two weeks. He then said the easiest way to buy ammo is to buy a new gun lol. Right. Like I'm gonna buy a gun just so I can buy a 20-round box of ammo...

    Is all of this accurate?

It's hard enough to find ammo. They have two boxes of what I need (only shop in the entire area). I'm planning on getting 03FFL + COE but that will take some time. What's the best way to actually purchase ammo in a store?

What he said. Just buy a stripped lower or one of those heritage rough rider 22lr pistols and put your current address.

Pay 19 bucks at shop or register firearm with cfars. Once cleared buy ammo. You are now an illegal alien ammo seeker till you get that done (LOL) or simple buy another firearm then you are in system proudly owning another firearm.

The background check is also only good at 1 store

So pass and you can not buy ammo elsewhere

Changing your address on CFARS is the best and smartest move.

Buying a new gun is OK, too. Doesn't everyone want a new gun?

The possible downside of buying a new gun is getting a Delay on DROS. Seems like a lot of that happening these days in Commiefornicated. See this thread on Delays.

Good lord! The absolute BS you poor guys are forced to deal with. Bureaucratic nightmares like this makes me even happier that I no longer live in Commiefornia (as if that was even possible).

I am currently stocking up on 9mm and have been ordering a case a month delivered to my door here in TN. Do you guys have to have a dealer order it for you and then sell it to you. If so what do they usually charge for a handling fee?

Get your CoE and 03FFL and then enjoy waiving your middle finger at Gavin while you mail order ammo to your heart's content.

Some dealers will order for you, many do not because of buyers backing out and the dealer is stuck with it, or they do not have storage space.

Some out of state vendors will ship to an FFL in CA. You have to pay the BG check fee, sales tax and whatever "transfer fee" the FFL wants to charge. It could be enough to negate savings by ordering from out of state.

It's a "pays your nickel, take your chance kind of deal.

Yeah I just put the 03FFL/COE paperwork in the mail and also updated my address in CFARS. Any idea how long that takes to actually process?

But I wanted to buy a couple boxes of ammo NOW. Because the store actually has it. It's the only shop from here to Nebraska that has any in stock...

Interesting. That says COE doesn't do anything for ammo purchase. Still have to do a background check. But it's $1. Is it instant? Or do I still have to wait up to two weeks?

                          What about 03FFL?

I know FFL/COE means I can buy ammo online. But what about in person at a local shop? Man this crap is nuts.

The COE by itself doesn't do anything about ammo. So getting a COE without a FFL03 is kinda pointless for your situation.

I have no idea about buying in a local shop; I also have a FFL/COE, so its shipped to my house and I don't have to pay LGS prices and I get a bigger selection. I paid the 95 bucks with targetsportsusa.com, get free shipping and a small discount over general prices. They are on the East Coast, so shipping takes about 7 days. I'm usually not in THAT much of a rush, so no biggie, but it may be important to you. Maybe someone has a better option.

Just buy a gun… a stripped lower is $50 at some stores. If you want the ammo now, why wait till it’s gone. At least you don’t walk away empty handed.
