Moving a safe

Easier than a dolly or hand truck. Once you get it past the doorsill you can move it easily by using about 6, 2' lengths of 1" pipe and just use them as rollers under the safe.Frank

Calculating that the top and bottom together are about the same as 1 'side', the door is about 20% of the mass; probably more, since most RSCs distribute material preferentially into the door. That would indeed make moving that sized box somewhat easier.

Garage to garage should be relatively straightforward, especially if you have a lift gate on the truck. I had to move mine around the house during a remodel using an appliance dolly and furniture dollies. Having a second person to help balance will certainly help.NRA Life MemberComment

Well happy to report we moved it without incident. 560# (supposedly) is a lot heavier than I expected based off my experience moving a 400 pound safe. It’s definitely a quality safe, at least based off the crap I’ve owned in the past.
So if anyone ever reads this and is in my same situation, 560 pounds is definitely doable with a good appliance dolly. Definitely need a few people to help tip and guide you. And the lift gate was a must, no way we would get it in a truck otherwise.
Safe has the internal hinges so not sure how the door would come off, but I didn’t really look close to see if possible.Last edited by cgseanp1; 08-13-2022, 2:31 PM.Comment
