I got am old safe given to me. It is a large double door document safe with a fire rating. I didn't have the combination for it. I found instructions on how to drill out the lock. Taking my time It took less than 30 minutes to open. After that I welded the hole (which was covered by the dial anyways) and installed a new lock. I got a great safe for an afternoon's work and the cost of a new lock.

All cheap safes (Costco, Walmart, turners) are garbage. They look impressive but metal is thin, they are packed with drywall, and a railroad pry bar can open most in minutes. It is an illusion of security. You are hoping a guy looks at the safe and just walks away. I have a sturdy safe with 1/2” steel door and 3/8 sides. It’s completely enclosed and bolted. It would still be relatively easy to open with tools but cutting through 1/2” steel is much more difficult than cutting though 16g sheet metal.Comment

Someday, someone is going to bring me a junk safe to open and I want to see if I can get the whole front off of it in less than 2 minutes with my plasma cutter.Randall Rausch

Gun safes are just an added layer of protection to slow a thief down as they don't want to hang out too long. Grab and go. A safe in a locked closet, in a locked room, in a locked house - with a dog or attack goose.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?Comment

I only have a medium plasma cutter. 29 amps @ 230v thermal dynamics. I think its about 40 inches a minute @ 10 guage. But, super awesomeness. A cnc plasma would be bitchensigpic
