Here's the Gemtech Mist 22. I actually don't know how long the solid part of the barrel is. They tell me that using subsonic ammo the loudest part of it is the cycling of the action.

The silencer cannot slow down the bullet. It only provides the gas somewhere else to go beside directly out the muzzle just like a car's muffler. Think expansion chamber.

*supersonic 22 makes noise as it travels down range that can still be heard. Sonic crack.
Still quiet, but subs rule.

He meant "slower than a 10/22" shoots it. "High velocity" .22 ammo is supersonic out of a rifle, subsonic out of a pistol. You can see from the earlier pic the Gemtech setup has a pistol length barrel.

That's really bad. It may be about as bad as it's ever been. 14 months? Yikes.

I was figuring on getting mine soon, but it's been ONLY a year. Guess I shouldn't care because I don't have anywhere to shoot it. I talked to the Forest Service awhile back and she said they're closing off all national forest to recreational shooting.

Another bad aspect of approval taking so long:

Manufacturer announces new silencer. Sounds cool, you want it, but hope to find it under msrp. By the time you finish looking, all the first batch is sold out.

You decide you'll pay whatever you have to, and get one of the second batch. By the time the Form 3 clears, and the Form 4 it's been almost a year and a half.

It finally arrives and you get it in your hot little hands. Before you even get a chance to shoot it, the manufacturer announces v 2.0, a new and improved one.

I just ordered and started the paperwork with the ATF for an integral suppressed barrel for my 10/22. It's .920" in diameter so it fits in the stock cut for the bull barrel.

Yes, E-file. Silencer Central told me that it has sped everything up. This is my first attempt so I'm just parroting what I'm being told. I actually just sent back the fingerprint cards so I don't know when the process actually starts.

I've always wondered why each department/organization in the US Government needs their own set of finger prints. The FBI already has mine as well as the US Navy.
