WTB 3rd Gen SW also looking for a 22 pistol with 6" bbl or longer -
Really? Within the last 4 or 5 days the guy in Buffalo shot up a grocery store with an AR. The guys that attacked and killed the guy at the gas station, at least one of them had a Krink style AK.I do not see someone taking a weapon with full power rifle carts to a street altercation. Large, heavy weapons that are unwieldly at close range, and sniper rampages are exceedingly rare.
By the time you get into "what would a rifle threat look like", it starts getting into "you're kinda ****ed anyway"
Unnecessary and too expensive. The chinese level IV plates seem fine and are much cheaper and look like they'll take multiple hits better than all ceramic.I mean, but you could get a tacticool combat vest with NJ-IV combat plates.
I mean, if you really wanna LARPComment

5.56 NATO that is most commonly used with ARs, and the 7.62 AK rounds are intermediate rifle cartridges.Comment

I was going to post the same link but I'm a day late to the party.d-r is a member here who sells bullet resistant stuff.
Find some soft panels that extend beyond the plates and find a carrier.

OP..all the answers to your questions will most likely be found in this lengthy thread in the link above. Get the best that your budget will allow you to get..for the plates and the carrier. Buy once cry once whenever you can I always say.Comment

There are plenty of areas outside of your nipple diameter that will kill you, I'm not going to list them all but being shot anywhere on your vertebral column can turn you into a quadriplegic or being shot in your subclavian vein/artery could easily be deadly. Many organs are below the plate protection range and being shot there can easily kill you as well.
(Just saw this thread)
Watching the news about the TX shooting I was surprised by how small some of the plates looked on some of the cops. It seems like only the SWAT guys had the larger plates.
But yeah, plenty of areas not covered by plates will get you killed.Sent from Free AmericaComment

I wouldn't go higher than that. I've got a set of level IV and I'd take the 1 lb weight reduction per plate over the protection from AP which is highly unlikely to encounter.
Anyone want to trade their IIIs for a set of lightly used IVs?
I've also got a concealable IIIa vest for staying under the radar if needed. Seeing that guy get shot near a rally in Portland(?) by some antifa type was quite sobering. Not that I go towards trouble, but want to be protected from it if I must.
Still need helmet for eventual NVGs and larping.Comment

I've got a good stash of AP in case pantifa comes around. I'd want III+ because everyone has M855.I wouldn't go higher than that. I've got a set of level IV and I'd take the 1 lb weight reduction per plate over the protection from AP which is highly unlikely to encounter.

Some place was selling police trade-in's for 99 bucks. Looked like older ACH type or the one prior to that.Still need helmet for eventual NVGs and larping.Comment

Most of the guys I know that are or have had LE or Uncle Sam Inc. experience; hate wearing armor.
Heavy, encumbers movement and takes away water/ammo that can be carried.
(30rd mag of 556 and a pint of water weighs about 1# each)
My take away from those opinions is to use level 2. Good average pistol, shotgun torso coverage while saving weight and still can be able to sprint like a rabbit. GTFO
Armor plates can save your life as long as your opponent shoots center mass.
You're still betting on red or black at the roulette table.Comment

I took a class at front sight and wore a vest
I am buddies with the Instructor who was teaching the class that trip
When he was talking about the failure drill - 2 to body then switch to the head, he asked the class why do we train for this drill?
He went one to say body armor is everywhere. He asked me to stand up and show my vest. He went on to say you have been around your fellow classmate for 2+ days. How many notices the armor while shooting, breaks or lunchtime.
Long way to say - I have home armor. Groin and neck protection.
And other armor to be the grey man and wander about in life-
Suit & tie
Shorts and flip flops
Be the grey manRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Superior? Depends on your criteria. For durability and weather resistance, can't beat steel. Drop them on the ground? Won't crack like ceramic. Leave it sitting in your trunk when it's 115 outside, 150 inside? No big deal, where laminated plastic might be weakened.Comment
