Collect Insure and Eastern Ins always come up as the top two gun insurance companies when this question gets asked...every month. Note that I'm not sure NRA is still even doing insurance since they've been having so many problems lately.
I'm with Collect Insure and they've been great...except I've never had to file a claim...knock on wood."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

I am new to firearm insurance, does it work like phone insurance or car insurance? Damage from fire, flood, earthquakes, plumbing leaks, earthquake sprinkler leakage, theft, sometimes a lower sub-limit 'out of vault/safe' or while in transit - pending none of the former are specifically excluded - but won't cover for wear-and-tear/breakage from use, confiscation by government or police, rust/corrosion from ambient/atmospheric conditions, 'mysterious disappearance', Alec Baldwin, or 'falling off a bed onto carpet.'

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?Comment

I have mine through USAA's Valuable Personable Property coverage. It is surprisingly cheap. During a move, the stock on one of my old Turk Mausers cracked at the wrist and they gave me the insured value. Quick and easy after I sent them a couple of pix. I also got to keep the rifle.Comment

USAA uses American Collectors for their high limit policiesI have mine through USAA's Valuable Personable Property coverage. It is surprisingly cheap. The VPP policy only covers $2,500 worth of jewelry for instance. If you need more, they hook you up with American Collectors.Comment

I do not see a firearm insurance policy on their site.
If they have one, do they insure it based on off roster California prices/value?Comment

Yeah theft and fire are the biggest worries for me so it's good that they cover that.Damage from fire, flood, earthquakes, plumbing leaks, earthquake sprinkler leakage, theft, sometimes a lower sub-limit 'out of vault/safe' or while in transit - pending none of the former are specifically excluded - but won't cover for wear-and-tear/breakage from use, confiscation by government or police, rust/corrosion from ambient/atmospheric conditions, 'mysterious disappearance', Alec Baldwin, or 'falling off a bed onto carpet.'

They do have one. I use them. It is called the "Collectibles Insurance" policy.
This is a high end provider. I mean it's not Lloyds of London but still. As such, the schedule of item values, within reason, is flexible and typically set by you. If you have several hundred thousand dollars or millions of dollars to cover, whether it be guns or Pokemon cards - they do it. You will pay for the privilege of course, but this is not a nickle and dime operation.
Many of the top rated home insurance providers (USAA, Amica etc) will connect you with these people if you have valuables in excess of $20-$50k

I just have a rider on my home owners insurance, like the one for my wife's ring.
My guns are insured for stated value, no deductible. Most home owners insurance policies have a low total limit, like $2500 or $5000.
I've heard good things about these guys
