    Community College firearm courses?

I've read that DeAnza Community College in Cupertino used to have a range, and they used to offer courses, ~10 yrs ago? why am i always late for the cool things?

Anyone know any colleges around the area still teaching any of these courses?

Lassen Community College in Susanville offers an AS degree in gunsmithing so I'm sure they would have some general gun classes.

Pretty far away but Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill offers a "Firearms & Self Defense" class (ADJUS-270) where you shoot at the Concord police range right across the hills from the public Concord shooting range.

IMO, it's quite worthless as a "self defense class" but a decent class to learn the basics or get college credit for shooting

It's sort of a primer for people who want to become cops. It's taught by a (last I heard) Concord police department guy...

Sierra College in Rocklin, CA offers many firearms classes, I am taking one of them this fall.

Fairly close to DeAnza is West Valley CC. I took a firearms course there in 2005. Not certain if the class is still offered. Class covered basic history, safety, operation, types of firearms. With two range trips---once to Reed's and once to the SJPD range.

De Anza DID have a range... right under the football stadium stands on the west side. They shut the range down and converted both ranges to classrooms around 1996. If you're in the parking lot, facing the stadium, the left side was the 50 yard range, the right side was the 25 yard range. A small classroom was between them. The armory part of the range was behind the classroom, and likely was connected to both ranges.

Law Enforcement agencies used that range all the time. The public was not allowed to shoot at De Anza's range. It was a great range, but it got too expensive (even for the mid-90's) to run.

Contra Costa Community College use to have them and we would go shoot down in Richmond off of where I think 580 is now. There use to be a range down there.

I took that class. I shot hundreds of dollars worth of ammo and only paid the $35 lab fee or whatever it was. Well worth the time.

Miramar College offers a firearms course I believe that is done at one of the police ranges. It is intended for students that are in the Police Academy there but I saw no restrictions when I was interested in signing up.
