Hey GTXR390. PM me if you decide to sign up for the class in the fall. I might just take that class again for the heck of it .

I'm surprised that there are publicly funded schools that teach anything to do with shooting. How do they get around that gun-free safe zone law?

The guns were off campus at a local PD training center.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

School zone laws probably weren't in effect then but it did affected a lot of gun loving citizens when the laws went in effect.

Golden West College still offer the PC832 Firearm course. I took one a few years ago. The class fees, range fee, ammunition and live scan fee are not cheap.

i just skimmed through the Fall 2010 course catelogue at west valley in saratoga and I found a course on firearm terms, history, laws, and safety. I'd definitely take this course, but I'm gonna be busy with organic chemistry at the time this course is offered.

The superintendent of a school district can authorize someone to have in his/her possession, a firearm within the 1,000 foot school zone or even on campus.

At De Anza, they had an armory/shop behind the classroom, and between the ranges. They stored ammunition and the firearms in that armory. If you wished to bring your own firearm, if you were in the class, you could have brought the handgun to class... few ever did as they provided the firearm and ammunition to be used in the class.

The gun-free school zone laws were in effect back then. It was legal to have firearms on campus, in the possession of a student, for purposes of those classes. IIRC, it still is legal to do so... most don't want the political liability though.

Oh, the GFSZA laws were very much in effect back then. When I took the classes, People v Clark hadn't been decided, so we were taught that having a firearm and ammunition within your reach constituted a loaded weapon. People v. Clark changed all that... as we all now know!

The range used to be where the G block of classrooms (the rooms under the track bleachers) are now.

I took that class in Spring of 1992 (iirc) with Mr. Ramos. I believe that it was the railroad's range, and was used by railroad police, as well as local departments. I ran into him in 2001, and he was apparently still doing the class at that time.
Great class with handguns (school's .38s or your own with your own ammo), and 870s. Included safety, weapons retention, some tactical reloading (particularly for the 870), and a lot of "shoot/no shoot" training.
There were prerequisite Administration Of Justice classes, so it wasn't available to every student.

It was the BEST class I had at CCC, and stands out as one of my better college courses.
