BlackDrop50, if you're gonna buy Benchmade, buy one with an Axis lock. all other knife actions feel primitive to me now. in my book, fast opening is only half of the action; a knife that closes one-handed in a controlled manner is much, much safer to work with.

Yeah my SOG has a axis type and I love it. I use my knives at work and almost always have my hands full and in a dangerous spot or up high so axis lock is vital to me.

I carry the 941 version of Black Majik's latest acquisition. I really love the 94X series, even gave one to my mother for a b-day present some time back, along with a 770.

I also have the titanium handled blue anodized colector's editions in 940 and 941 blades in S30V steel, but I don't carry them, theyz too purty!

I have a Rukus, a large 4" Axis Lock drop point semi serrated blade. I've found that I actually handle a liner lock a lot faster and with more surety. Using the liner lock I have better control over the blade rather than an effective gravity blade when the axis is held back.

Don't get me wrong - the Axis lock is probably the fastest to actuate open and close; i just feel more confident with a liner lock.

Yeah it's legal, no it's not an open assist (though open assist knives aren't illeal, either).

I used to have a Griptillian. Lost it after 3 years and replaced it with a Benchmade 710.

i never open my knife by the Axis lock, that's only for closing. i open the blade with the thumb stud or a flick of the wrist. i suppose i would thumb the Axis to open the blade if i wanted complete silence...

liner locks, ugh. the Flintstone's car of the knife action world. i prefer to keep my fingers out of the blade's arc, thank you.

Below is my pocket companion of many years --- a Benchmade Presidio model 520. Best pocket knife I've ever owned. Super-smooth open & close with the axis lock (and has become smoother over the years I've had it). I also have a pre-production Benchmade Nimravus (fixed blade) that I have rarely used in the 5 years or so I've had it.

yeah, i gotta send it in to get that clip screw removed. the head recently snapped off when re-attaching the clip after a cleaning (Benchmade said they'd remove it).
